Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Project Cafe/3DS and the abandoning of the consumer

These Malstrom inspired unfoundedly negative threads are giving me migraines. Cherry pick a few games and statistics, declare that this defines Nintendo's entire direction, then declare doom

It's just as asinine as the people earlier in the generation who cherry-picked Nintendo's casual moves and declared that they abandoned the core. It's the same damn thing just from a different perspective

What statistics are they cherry picking? Is it that Net income is down 66%. Is it that Sony has more games in the top 15 in Japan since the DS launched (9 to 8). Is it the one where the 3DS is selling below expectations. Or maybe the one where Nintendogs did not being in Wii customers and is not selling anywhere near the first one. Or maybe the one where the PSP is outselling the 3DS.

You misunderstood, I was saying that the SNES didn't have the games that attracted the gamers like the NES did, even if SNES released two years later, it should have blown by the Genesis if it had the games that people wanted, the NES blew by gaming PC's and the Wii blew by the 360, but the NES struggled to even beat the Genesis

Yeah I looked at the chart on wikipedia, most of those games are shovelware garbage, that's not support, support is getting high quality games, stuff that made Wii fit look like what it was, just a tech demo, nothing o nthat list compares.

It had the games that people wanted and much more, it's impossible to wipe copletly a product out of the market unless it's faulty or uncompetitive, that's why Sega quit the console business they couldn't compete with the other three companies.

Also did you really check the list????

Tecmo Super Bowl, Tiny Toons, Tale Spin, Snow Bros, Smash Tv, Skate or Die, Ninja Gaiden III, Last Ninja, Flinstones, Battletoads, Batman Return of the Joker, Adventure Island 2, 2 Ultima games, TMNT II, Super Mario Bros 3, Super C, Star Tropics, River City Ramson, Nintendo World Cup, Ninja Gaiden 2, Maniac Mansion, Little Nemo, Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, Castlevania 3, Batman, Chip and Dale. Sorry but if these (that're only a portion of the games in the list) aren't quality support  I'll kick a kitty.

and where does the tale of the DS itself factor into all of this? Taking a snapshot of the market and using it to make declarations of broader trends is cherry-picking at its core

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Where is battletoads and Super Mario bros 3 on the list of games that support the balance board?!?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii_Balance_Board#Software

Are you paying attention to the discussion?   How are  most of those games on that list considered high quality?

 Café cannot be priced more than the PS3, otherwise customers will look elsewhere to spend their money.

Bull. That's like saying Wii should not have been priced more than PS2.

Cafe = 8th gen console

PS3 = 7th gen console

That's not how it will be perceived by the general public.

By the general public you mean the 'hardcore' minority who measure generations based on power?

SNES wasn't a failure. It was the first time that Nintendo faced a real competitor and both fight for the same market, because of that the market was splitted in two, also you mention Galaxy as an example of a games "jamed" check the sales it's one of the best selling games of this generation.

Also what Wii/DS consumer are we talking about?, most of the "casual" consumers that bought products like Wii Fit, Sprts, Brain Academy. etc. only bought them for the hype ut never bother to support other options in entretainment for the same system; You can't sustain a bussiness model like that.

Why did they face a competitor alfred, it wasn;t because of Sega, it was because of Nintendo's own deicisons, Sega had a master system in the 8 bit era, but lost horribly to the NES.

Galaxy sold, but did not move consoles, and did not expand the audinece, and sold  far, far less than 2D Mario

Heck both Galaxy's sold less than NSMB combined

They bought them for the promise of future games, that Nintendo never fulfilled the blame for unsustainibility was Nitnendo's not the market

Not many games sell as well as Mario, Or Call of Duty. Galaxy sold a good what 9 to ten million? How many games even get there, or have gotten to that point on the dominant PS2?

^ And that just shows that if Nintendo had actually fulfilled the Promise of the Wii instead of wasting their time on Galaxy, they could have easily passed the PS2, like I said the fault is Nintendo's not their competitors
