But...but...I've been waiting for this moment since he started naysaying.

Forgive me. Perhaps I shouldn't have.

Lol, its funny. I was suggesting it more so because you could get moderated more than being personally offended.

 $200. Lol.

It's going to cost $350. Deal with it.

Oh, and eat crow.

I don't know, $350 is getting kinda steep for a console that really will not be much more powerful than PS3/360, yet it'll be significantly more expensive. At $350 alot of Nintendo's blue ocean consumers will wait for price drops, alot of gamer will wait for a bunch of Nintendo games (it'll probably get most  3rd party games as multiplats but who is going to buy a new console for multiplatform titles)

I am going to guess $300 just because Nintendo dosn't want to "underprice" it like they think they did with the Wii. Though i think it really should launch at $250 which will be price of PS3 in 2012.

Here in the U.K, the 3DS is currently £175 ($288) on Amazon, but started pre-orders at £230 ($380).  I doubt the Project Cafe will be below that price range

We don't evenm know the full specs and you come with that not much more powerful than PS3/360 thing.

Nintendo can make a full generational jump with the R700.

People will pay $350 if they think the system is worth it. For most people $350 is affordable, the question really is whether it is desireable enough at $350? In the end Nintendo will probably pack in just enough software and hardware so that the average user could buy the console and come home with the box and enjoy a satisfying experience.

If SONY / Microsoft launch new consoles in 2014 using old GPU's they will be 6 GPU generations ahead of the R700. Not to mention rumours are that Nintendo is aiming for 512mb of RAM, maybe 1024mb. The biggest bottleneck for current systems is there lack of RAM, so 1024mb of RAM would indicate a system only slightly more powerful. As for the CPU will don't have much information other than it being PowerPC based and using 3 cores. As such it probably fits inline with the other specs.

Not to mention the leaked slideshow had Nintendo indicating that they want easy ports from 360 and PC to there new console. That shows that they are looking to compete with current consoles and not SONY/Microsofts next-gen consoles.

At $350, gaming enthusiasts will buy it if it interests them. While Nintendo can keep Wii going for 'casuals' at its low price points. Then when PS4 and 720 come out, they lower the price to a more market appealing one.

Yay I get to go first and I love speculating on hardware.

My best guess is something like this:

RAM:

1024 MB of GDDR 5 this will probably yield around 50-80GB/S bandwidth. The best balance between cost/performance is around that level and it follows the current RAM size / bandwidth ratios of current generation systems and the expected trends for next generation systems. Doubling this would require 8 chips which would be cost prohibitive and won't yield good performance/price ratios as the bandwidth wouldn't scale with any increase in capacity.

Optical Drive:

4-8* Blu Ray, what else can I say?

CPU:

X86/PPC equivalent to a fast Core 2 Duo.

GPU:

~between an HD 4850 or HD 5770 in outright performance, feature set could be DX10 or DX11.

Storage:

Something like 8GB of Flash.

lol, my explanations died out. Anyway the RAM thing probably needed the most explanation and the rest sort of feels like 6 of this compared to half a dozen of the same. Different terminology yielding the same result.

That's not much stronger than the current HD consoles.

A Radeon HD 4850 is only 3-3.5 times faster than the GPU of the Xbox 360, and this new Nintendo console is supposed to come out in 2012... 7 years later than the X360.

I think that's very poor when you consider the X360 also cost $300 when it launched.

Nintendo will put themselves at a point where the console is powerful but still doesn't threaten development prices.

Sony and MS are NOT going to bleed moeny like they did this generation. They will come out powerful but not so much more. They have to be more conservative. Too powerful and devs will say 'FK You! We're not going bankrupt to develop on your hardware!' Sony and MS know the budget costs problems devs are having.

If they come out too powerful, they'll put Nintendo in a PS2/360 position where games are developed for the 'CAFE' and ported to others because it is easier to develop for and less expensive.

And they cannot come at 6 GPU ahead of the R700 unless they come with huge boxes with cooling systems so the console doesn't melt.

The rumour never said Nintendo is aiming for 512 MB RAM. That was a French-to-English translation mistake on the part of someone. The French site said they don't know the amount of RAm but 512 MB is the minimum.

I'm expecting 1.5-2GB myself.

At $350 they don't have to worry about the lower price point in the market because every Wii they sell for $149-200 provides a pretty compelling upgrade path to the NES 6 regardless. I don't think they need to lower the price, Sony and Microsoft seem to have no trouble selling $300 systems and their bundles aren't nearly as much added values as Nintendo's typically are.
