Forums - Gaming Discussion - Vgchartz ranking game--Mass Effect 2!!

All you have to do is put what score you think the game below deserves, and write a brief explanation as to why it deserves that score.

Voting is open for 3 days, after the 3 day period I will count up all the scores and get the average of the game.  I will be putting up a new thread with a new game every 3 days

Rules

1. You had to have played at least enough of the game to form an honest opinion about it

(playing it for 5 minutes is NOT enough time, nor is watching a friend play the game)

2. Scores have to be on a 10 point scale with 7 being average.

3. If you score a game 5 or under, you have to go into great detail as to why you gave it such a low score.

4. A game must have at least 15 people that gave it a score to be counted.

5. If you score a game more than once none of your scores will count

6. Users with less than 50 posts cannot score a game.

killzone 3 shoulda be interesting lol....never played mass effect sadly =/...should get to it soon xD

9.0

Very very good. I loved it. I originally rated it a 9.5 when I first got it but changed my mind a bit.

Pro's
The shooting was actually good unlike ME1 and fun with some awesome powers.
I felt the first game was a poor shooter and an ok RPG.They streamlined the RPG elements so it was less cluttered.
I felt it fit this type of game because it is a shooter. [ME1 imo had too many guns that were the same]
Some Great New Characters like Mordin, and Miranda and Kelly.
Took the gamesaves and your decisions from ME1 better than any game I've seen (they still copped out a lot though)
Dialogue wheel as always was awesome.

Con's
Thermal Clips and the way it was explained
Too many new many new characters which skewed the story/character mission ratio.  while reducing some of the best ones (Ashley, Liara [I know she had a big DLC I played but her role was dissapointing, and wrex.) This will make the 3rd game difficult for them.
You don't get to see tali's face when romancing seems like a natural good reward other than a sex scene...  this was really dumb to me
They took out the mako [Now they did address this with fantastic hammerhead sequences in overlord but once again DLC]
This game was basically a bunch of sidequests. The story went not very far for a 30 hr game.

I'm truly excited for 3 if they incorporate missions like overlord in ME3 with hammerhead. I think it has a shot being the best game this gen for me. But the results for Dragon Age 2 seem a bit worrisome. But ME3's done by my favorite bioware director Casey Hudson anyways.

Pros-

No driving sections wooo!

No more inventory mess!

Cons-

I miss being able to drive on planets...

Less RPG combat and more FPS Combat

Overall 8.8

Yes I just compare to older game but it's just better this way for me..

Former something....

:O How could you have not played one of the best (if not THE best) game/s of this generation?

9.5 one of the gems of this generation.

I hope to see Red Dead Redemption soon!

Haven't played Mass Effect 2 yet (what's up with that?!).

I am playing this game right now, on my second playthrough, nice of you to include this.

Pros:

+ Graphics

+ Gunplay mechanics: This was very good, especially for the sniper rifle which is probably my favourite in this game.

+ Extremely fantastic characters: If ME 2 does something perfect, its the personality of a couple of characters in this game. Mordin Solus, Garrus, Illusive Man and some others are really a joy to see and listen to.

+ Excellent voice acting.

+ Excellent music.

+ Character customization at the beginning, you get to change how you look. Very nice of them to provide a code which can be copied and used for another time. For eg. if playing on a 360 you have your own character you can copy the code, and use it on the PC for the same character face.

+ Final level is one of the best missions you will play on any video game.

Cons:

- The biggest minus of the game, the game itself. At first its great to go on a mission killing enemies to find your target, i.e. your crew members, but it gets old after a couple recruitments. By the time I was recruiting the last two or three characters I was completely bored of the game's repetitive nature with nothing to do different.

- LOYALTY F*CKING MISSIONS. F*CK THAT. More unnecessary going on a mission that's not related to the story. There should have been more variety in the loyalty missions, but it was the same go to a planet, go to a particular place in there, shoot enemies and complete the objective which usually didn't mean much on your part. Skipped this sh*t when I had the chance, and just went through the relay saying f*ck my crew, I just want to enjoy this damn game.

- Complicated RPG elements. This one is hard to explain. The squad screen is simple enough where you allot points, but the squad weapon and armor and ship armor upgrades are unnecessarily complicated. Just put them all at one place and I find the resources for it and do the upgrade, no buying upgrades and finding upgrades stuff please.

- The fact that the no. of missions that actually relate to the story, although these mission are really big, are limited to around 3 or 4. Everything else is completely unrelated to the story.

Rating: 8.7

9.6

Bang on it's Metacritic.  It would be higher had I not preferred the story in the first game.  It would also be higher if I was taking into account the DLC (which EXCELLENTLY rounded out the second game and set up the third).

As it was, it solved all the technical issues from the first game as well as almost all gameplay flaws, but as mentioned, it's story without the DLC wasn't as compelling.  It really felt like it was the middle of a trilogy, which often isn't a good thing.
