Interesting philosophical divide. I, myself have argued what they argue in earlier threads when the GeoHot case first broke. I was playing the devil's advocate to get a better understanding of the flaws of their argument.
Basically, Anonymous believes that if you own your console you have every right to tinker with it and modify it in any way, shape, or form you want to.
Here is where their fundamental belief runs into conflict:
1. If a PS3 is connected to PSN it will receive updates (for free btw) from Sony.
2. PSN since the release of the PS3 has been free. Sony would argue they are giving every single PS3 user a massive charitable donation because the alternative (Xbox Live) is fee-to-play.
3. Video game consoles do not equal personal computers. Many, including myself, will concede video game consoles are becoming more like personal computers on the cheap with every next generation.
I disagree with Anonymous philosophically. My disagreement rests entirely with the network and online capabilities, even if you pay for it. Going further, I agree that there are things I cannot and should never do on my PC.
For example, I own a computer and can tinker around and modify it to a large degree. That being said, living in a society of laws, there are areas which are patently illegal such as child pornography, online piracy, and hacking.
No excuse in the world justifies illegal behavior. I don't care if you are starving and need to steal a loaf of bread to feed your child. Your actions will be passed onto another and they will learn from you that illegal behavior is acceptable.
Once we make one exception then you have to condone it for everyone. If you allow the starving man to steal a loaf of bread, then you as a society or group of individuals sanction those who are the most powerful and materially successful in your society or group to screw over the weakest to further their ends.
Anonymous from their videos seems to believe their illegal hacking is for the good of the Sony consumer. Why should their hacking be condoned, while when someone hacks and steals thousands of credit cards is chased to the ends of the Earth?
Anonymous hacking PSN is equally as bad as any other form of hacking. Their behavior should not be condoned no matter the reason because if we condone their behavior than who are we to doubt the hacker who stole thousands of credit card numbers did not steal them so that he can donate their balances to feeding the poor people in Africa?
That is how I feel about not being able to play MK online for 4 fucking cunt days, god dammit
That is all.

there would be nothing wrong with geo hot drinking (hacking) but the problem occurs when he gets in his car (risking everyone else, in our case PSN users) and even though his intent isnt to run someone over (piracy, cheating), its still very likely to happen. its a fact geohot knew that releasing jailbreak would lead to substantial levels of piracy and cheating and if you do not acknowledge that fact then you bare no credibility and therefore i dont want to debate it with you. anyways if he was right, why did he back down despite having financial funds and support from the hacking community including anonymous? actually dont answer that because there is no real answer for that.... probably only a few excuses. |
Let us run with your analogy of drinking. Do you remember prohibition? Do you remember what a fucking idiotic idea it was? End of story.
Also as far as companies go Sony is a fucking piece of shit company that doesn't deserve to exist. First this fucking bullshit where they think the product is their own AFTER we buy it and we can't share how to do things with it. Then if you remember they put in rootkits on their CDs. That was also to prevent piracy. The sooner the fucktards of SONY go out of business the happier I will be.

Funny Geohut WON the same lawsuit that Apples slapped him with that Sony's doing now. He's the one who raps about Sony, then talks big about Sony in interviews, and then flees the country? WTF? He's making himself look guilty it's his EGO why this whole thing is the way it is. He is such a TOOL(keyword remember that) all this for nothing really.
IDK why encourage people to hack the PSN like that's gonna make Sony back down. Only made about 90% of the PS3 owners pissed. Who knows who caused this PSN outage If it was him and his minions well not just everyone hates you but there can be criminal charges coming your way.
At the end of the day your just ruining the consumers purchuse just cause you have a beef with them. All this for well nothing he didn't do this on Apple's why do it now?

What part of denying they had something to do with it has slipped your notice? Just because the original poster tried to spin what happened that way doesn't mean it is how it happened. And no, Anonymous isn't on anyone's side. Anonymous is a loosely connected of community that operates behind masks, and will express sometimes contradicting opinions. There is some shared values between the individuals, born out of the culture of the Internet. Anonymous just is. Whether or not you feel a culture of hiding behind masks and acting should be stamped out and everyone be identified all the time, and everything that is done in private shoiuld be revealed to the world, would be up to you. |
Sorry, I haven’t put a spin on anything; the original post was almost entirely from the videos YouTube description, listen to the part of the video at 1:25 minutes in which Anonymous explains that it was a mistake to attack PSN and the video is really the important part of the post not the text. I only ever brought this to everyone’s attention here because this is a forum for gamers that also share my concern about the disruption this attack has caused us and to maybe shed some light on the situation.

we are talking a jet car arent we? I'd assume it would be like James Bond's car submarine. And I think he had a flying car too, forget. Simply park it after it retracts its wings.
