This table here shows how price cut and new devices release affected the sales and Gap of HD consoles. I didn't take the release date of 360 Slim and Kinect and Move into account since the 360 Slim was still selling at $300, no price cut there.

Most likely all three systems will get price cuts. The Wii is already getting one from retailers and most likely Nintendo will cut it further to $150.

I expect Microsoft and Sony will also do $50 price cuts.

I hate numbers, but here is what I do recall.

1) When the PS3 got a "pricedrop" ($300 PS3 Slim), it was continually outselling the Xbox 360 worldwide even at the most expensive entry level pricepoint.

2) When the Xbox 360 got a "pricedrop" ($200 Xbox 360 Slim), it was outselling the PS3 worldwide until the start of this year (2011) even with Kinect.  Didn't the PS3 also outsold the Xbox 360 during the Christmas shopping season as well?

3) The PS3 is still the most expensive console and is currently outselling the Xbox 360 worldwide.

It would be logical to conclude that the PS3 will benefit more in sales from a pricedrop than the Xbox 360 without any unforseen "X" factors.

Japan finally decided to embrace the PS3. That pretty much the only reason the PS3 outsells the 360 during the off months. Remove the Japan numbers from the equation and what do you get? If Japan embraced the XBox 360  like it does the PS3, it would be pretty much even up until the holidays. If America embraced the PS3 the same way Japan embraces the XBox 360 it would be a completely different story. That the PS3 real edge, plus a few more exclusives. The Wii doesn't have a lot of harcore gamers and as we all know, casual gamers do most of their game shopping during the holidays.

According to this site there have been weeks where if you excluded Japan's numbers, the PS3 still would have outsold the Xbox 360.

Couldn't this same thing be said of the 360? Remove American's numbers what do you get? Really, the PS3 outsells the 360 in Japan & EMEAA if we get real technical.


Some people have to live in a "slice" of fantasy to make reality just a little more bearable.

Same for the Wii, if the world didn't embrace the Wii, X360 and PS3 would have outsold it each week. Remove Americas & EMEAA & JP and you'll see....

These kind of statements are pointless. PS3 outsold X360 worldwide, that's it. Americas' population compared to Japan's population is X times bigger. So the fact that Americas embraced the X360 would have had logically more effects than Japan embracing the PS3, yet it didn't happen.

Conclusion: PS3 outsold X360 and that's it. Japan in or Japan out is really going way too far to get that slice of fantasy...
