I'm thinking Reach will settle at 10.5-11 million, GT5 at 10-10.2 million. GT5 will be the 4th best selling in the franchise, while Reach will be the second best selling in it's franchise.

That sounds about right to me (give or take 1 million due to bundles)

Both will probably get further bundles (though GT's may be more extensive and have a larger impact). I can't imagine the final numbers being much more for either though (10.5mill tops for GT5/11.2mill tops for Reach).

Yeah I can imagine MS will be focusing more on Kinect game bundles then core game bundles....but i do forsee a Forza 3 (or 4) and Halo Reach bundle this year maybe.

And GT5 will probably get bundled pretty good later this year/early next year in EMEAA at the least.

Nice boost for kinect. That's what happens when you release software.

Ps3 is still leading the console pack.

3DS is slowing down.

GTA4 PS3... lol

PS3 leading the home consoles. Seriously didn't see that coming after the sales last holiday season.

I did. That has happened for the past 2 years. Wii and XBox 360 have slow sales during the summer months and the PS3 usually does slightly better. Then the holidays come and Wii and XBox 360 crushes the PS3 is hardware and software sales. Happens every year. I think the only year the PS3 didn't lead the summer was the first year and the year when the 360 Slim launched.

GT5 isn't going to reach 10 million. It might get bundled again for the holidays, but the chances are still very slim it will reach 10 million. If it doesn't get bundled, it will never reach 10 million.

Yeah Kinect definitely needs more software to keep up the sales. They gotta get on that if they don't want it to go the eyetoy route.

Saying that the 360 crushes the PS3 every year during the holidays is a bit of a stretch.  In terms of shipments, the 360 has only won the 2008 holiday (well PS3 launch too, but that was the launch and it wasn't out in Europe).  The PS3 led in 2007 and 2009 with 2010 being a tie.  I'd hardly say that is the 360 crushing the PS3 every year.  Actually if you align them, the PS3 has been higher every time.  Higher Jan-Mar quarter for the PS3 as well if you want to say they overshipped.  And seriously... 'the past 2 years'?  You're really saying the 360 crushed the PS3 during the 2009 holiday season?

The 360 does probably get a bigger boost though since its sales are more American centric, and the US tends to peak more in the holidays.

It is out, it just sold really badly. 19K opening week. One of the casualties of not having a top 200 chart.

Anyway, how does PS3 outsell Wii and 360 yet have so much lower software? We're almost back to the whole PS3 doesn't move software scenario.

Because we have PS3 SW undertracked by like 80 Million or something

480 Million units of SW shipped WW... 385 Million sold WW...

Anyway, OT:

Huge Kinect boost this Week. With new SW, comes new buyers.

Nice to see PS3 hold onto that top spot too

woops forgot to click done after i was typing anyway so this is going to be a late reply.

Those sony software numbers were likely a typo by sony. From their official website it can easily be seen that they have shipped 424.8million units by the end of quarter 3. Just add up the ytd numbers of previous years with the three quarters of this year.  http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/data/bizdataps3soft_sale_e.html.  That would mean sony would have had to ship 55.2 million units in quarter 4 for the 480mil. This is about the same amount it shipped during quarter 3 this fiscal year which is the holiday quarter.

Considering quarter 4 last year had god of war 3, final fantasy xiii, heavy rain, mag, and battlefield, as major titles, and there was a similarly large amount of decently selling multiplatforms as this year's quarter 4, its safe to assume quarter 4 shipments are lower than last year. I think there are well over 20mil ps3 software in all the retailers across the world. Hard to believe there are only 15mil as you estimated considering just major titles could ship around or over 1million units more than they sell through in their initial weeks, (examples include halo 3, gran turismo 5, GTA4, kinect adventures, even dead space 2 and homefront, many others I'm too lazy to find as well), but I can't find any info on the number of games the major retailers have on display and storage at any one time so its really anyone's guess.  PS3 software is still probably undertracked by at least 15mil.

Can't really compare to 360 numbers because sadly microsoft doesn't release shipment info... Anyway we will find out actual quarter 4 shipments in May so we can see exactly how much lower vgc sold through numbers are than shipped numbers.

As for this week. Looks like new kinect releases will give kinect a nice bump every now and then. Killzone 3 holding on nicely, and crysis 2 is showing much better legs than bulletstorm despite identical week 1. It could even catch up to homefront in the long run seeing as its drop off is much slower. Its week 4 is higher then homefront's. Nice to see Fallout New Vegas on the charts as well.

Really? What's the indicator that confirms it's chances are very slim? We already mentioned bundles, so that's not something new (in fact, most games that hit 10 million are bundled at some point or another - except for rare occassions such as CoD/Wii Fit).

Regardless, why are GT5's chances slim even with bundles? I'm curious.

Just look at the world wide numbers and how much is currently being sold in each region. It's continuing to drop each week until it's down to about 2000 or less a week worldwide. You guys are looking at GT4 and GT3 numbers and thinking GT5 can do the same, but at the  time GT3 and GT4 were selling decent numbers there were almost twice the number of PS2 in gamers homes. Once GT6 is released, GT5 will be an after thought. GT6 won't take 5 years to complete. They will just use GT5 engine and data and add to it.

here it is..

The drop between September 09 and May '10 is amazing really. 4.8 Million within 9 Months.

Makes me wonder what could happen this Year if Sony do things right again.

Edit: And despite everything MS threw out last Year... They only managed to increase the gap by about 200k in the long run.

so at ps3 launch 599$ 360 was over 5 million ahead, then climed to almost 8 million ahead? and now is 3.5 million ahead! something tells me ps3 has done pretty good, both 360 and wii would not have achieved this had thy launched at 599$
