Forums - PC Discussion - Anyone Play Lord of the Rings Online?

Hello, I had this game day one and played during the open beta. I soon stoped playing because my friend that got me to try it out went back to WoW.

I havent played WoW at all since last year. I just email soem of the friends I made to keep in touch. Anyways, I felt like booting up this game for fun. I noticed it says limited on talking for the free account. This has me a bit worried. does someone know the limits? Like can I speak to people or am im basically just going to be stuck on my own?

Before I played as a minstrel, but I want to play a fun damage class. Doesnt need to the best one just something fun. WHich one do you find most enjoyable?

Around the Network

dude it's free, just install and play, your talking question will soon be answered.

I can't answer them as I only played for a 24 hour period and well felt it was a bit too lonely/repetitive for me. I just can't stand the wow formula anymore :x

If it's FTP model is anything similar to DDO ( Dungeons and Dragons Online, LOTRO's sister MMO), then it probably means you may have some limited on send tell to random people (strangers, people not in your guild or maybe not friend list. But should be fine on group or even general channel). Those limit are mainly for spammers or gold farmer, if I want to guess.

You'll be better off sticking with a Blizzard product. WoW didn't get its popularity for being a bad game. It hasn't maintained extreme success from being a boring game. Everything in and about WoW is simply superior to any of it's competitors. Stick with WoW, you won't find anything better anytime soon. (Besides the next WoW expansion)

Never said WoW was a bad game but I am long bored of it. THe only thing that keept me going after the couple year s was I met some great people. I differently would not call everything superior as that is subjective. I have been doing the Lord of the RIngs thing and am enjoying it. I am exploring it like crazy and have found some awesome areas. FOr example I was in the Lone-Lands on top of some ruins. It was night time and storming. With  thunder and lighting in game. I was over looking another set of ruins and a hillside. I was in awe. I cant recall the last time I did that in WoW. I would guess the first time I went to Winterspring. I really liked that area. The classes play a lot different than WoW, so thats a nice change.

I have found a over 20 guild. It is small but they are all very nice and have helped me learn some stuff about the game I had some trouble with. I find it very laid back and there is no rush to do anything. THe only area where chat annoys me is Bree Land and thats only in the evening. I kept most of my chat turned off in WoW. They have a advice chat channel and people actually give you good information not flame you and give you incorrect information on purpose. If they are not sure they give their advice and let you know they are not sure. IN general, common courtesy left WoW years ago simply because of the number of people playing it.

Just becauase WoW has sold so much does not make it the best at anything other than selling. Seems like I was right not to buy this last expansion that came out for it. It looks like more people than just me are over it.

I also wanted to add another common courtesy that impressed me with LOTRO. Not once when i am going after a quest elite has someone came in and killed it. THey have everytime messaged me to group up to do it. I have also done a bit of rep item farming. Same thing happened there. We had a group of 6 which is a full fellowship in a cave farming togather. THat has never happened in WoW for me unless it was a guild mates.
