Forums - General Discussion - Sony, maker's of defective products!

Ok, I have read a lot of people's input on various systems. When I was younger i collected all systems. I remember anticipating the original launch of the saturn and the Playstation. I reserved both. I unfortunately was one of the first 50,000. As you may remember the first 50,000 would burn out. I played mine for about 4 hours and it overheated and was useless.

No problem right? Next came the Playstation 2(keep in mind I own all sytems)I was excited playing it. I loved the Gamecube as well. After 6 months of the Playstation 2 , the motor went out.....sound familiar to anyone? Hey i got an idea, since you have a library of games , why not buy another Playstation 2???Nope not me. My brother's Playstation 2 had a motor that went out as well after a year and a half. His sony TV and my Sony Stero conked out as well. I read threads about people on here that are biased. I am not, I just have cold feet about purchasing anything Sony. My PS3 is collecting dust. regardless what people think, I enjoy my Wii. Think about this, how many of you have had your Sega's and Nintendos conk out??? I think those two were the best rivals, after all they always out did each other for games. Microsoft got into the market for money, not games. Sony, well lets take a look shall we??? Nintendo/Sony created the Playstation. Period?? didnt know that?

The Playstation was to be an add-on to the SNES follow the link http://www.n-sider.com/articleview.php?articleid=279

So, anyone that has read this and is a Sony fan, is a closet nintendo fan, just scared to come out!

ONCE AGAIN NOT BIASED!!!!!!!   PS Resistance is good but there are too many first person shooters being developed.

I've been in the gaming industry since I was young. Bar none, the "Worst Quality for Hardware" award I have ever bought belong to Sony for both PS(one) and PS2.

I remember having to play all of my PS(one) games by literally flipping the console upside down after starting it up. Mind you, the console was never dropped, had anything spilled on it and so forth. I just gave out loading unless I flipped it upside down.

I was too poor to buy -another- PS(one) when I was a young teen, so if it wasn't for reading about this "trick" in PSM magazine I would have tossed my Playstation in the trash. Rather tragic that such a problem was widespread enough that magazines had to publish articles about it.

But, eventually even the trick stopped working and I had to get the slim PSone.

When PS2 came around, I expected better hardware overall. I was at least going to give Sony some credit as perhaps just starting out in the industry they made some poor mistakes. I was wrong as I wound up having to buy three--yes three-- PS2's!

Personally, after the first one died on me, I was going to give up, but I have a wife who is also a gamer (total bonus!), so she insisted on buying the console a few times because she had many RPG's she loved to play on it.

Two consoles - Five units!

This is one of the primary reasons I can not justify spending $600 for PS3. Especially since my original NES from 85' still works great; And it -has- taken some falls and bumps over the years. I was playing the heck of out “Mike Tyson's Punchout!” last month.

The only console that ever gave me any trouble was the NES. I still have it, but it works maybe 5% of the time. I've never had any trouble with my other consoles (SNES, N64, PS1, PS2).

Yes they are in it for the mighty dollar, agreed. Nintendo started in I believe 1890 or so, making card games. They have always been about making entertainement. Microsoft just got into this market.

Yeah I remember the upside down PS1 trick but that was no worse than having to blow into your NES games or position the cartridge just right by moving it back and forth or not putting it in as far as it could go. My Sega Genesis and Dreamcast still work like a charm to this day and from what I remember there were no widespread hardware problems with those consoles when they were around.

I would have to say the only system I had issues with was the NES. I guess some people get a bad shake. I know way to many people with sony products that work to even try to call them faulty.

And nintendo backed out on sony and tried to partner with phillips. The actual playstation that was released has a different design.

I never had a problem with my launch PS1 and PS2. I still own them as well as my PS3. I have problems with the games with my NES & SNES with that whole blow into them to dedust them.. My game saves have been deleted quite a bit too. The worst console I've seen has been the Xbox 360 though. My friends have replaced their consoles between 2 - 5 times.

Well, I think the PSone flip was more annoying than NES cartridge blowing. People also forget that SNES came with covers for the bottom of their cartridges, but they didn't get used by the majority of people. Also one couldn't put the PSone console in an entertainment center very easily ( if the trick was needed.) Also having the cords all nested up from the flipping could prove a real hassle at times.

This forum is actually the first time I've heard of people who had problems with the NES, beyond the cleaning of cartridges. I suppose it is bound to happen, but I know lots of people who have had tons of problems with Sony's first two consoles.

Even with Nintendo backing out from Sony, I still hold Sony at fault for putting out a very fragile product. They are electronic/multimedia giants.

I would agree that flip does sound annoying. The only fault any of my friends had with the PS1 was because he dropped it and had to use a plastic spork or something to make the PS1 think that the cover was closed. I have not heard many people complain about the PS1...... the PS2 is a different matter though.

My NES ended up with a spring and latch issue, so the old fashion sock remedy did the trick.

I agree with staticneuron's final comment "Games make me happy! "

We often get wrapped up in the gaming wars, when the ones who accidently choose a system they put their hard earned money in and it flops or is defective. They are the ones who lose, all in all people are'nt really biased, deep down we share the same goal...GIVE US GREAT GAMES I have my favorites on all systems. I don not regret any sony/sega or nintendo purchases.

I do not regret my purchase on the ps3 or the wii. In my personal opinion, the graphics are better on the PS3, no one can take that away. I do not regret it(price was high)I rarely play it because when i have friends or co workers over they are so enthused with the wii. I like how you can find weather, the wii shop for all the downloadable games from the sega/turbo grafx and the snes nes and the 64. sony people keep knockin the Wii and vice versa. People say the wii is a gimmick??? Here is an educated response to that. It isn't a gimmick, people are buying it because of the fun/it is totally interactive. Games have become stagnant in the quest for better graphics. I admit purchasing sytems before just to say"look what this can do (graphics wise)All in all I play the wii more than anything. It is fun, Zelda is so much fun, Ive noticed games I have beat, well....I still replay them. I just can't wait for the companies to produce more games quicker for the systems, I am quite impatient.
