Gotta say, I'm hella impressed Naughty Dog. Nice!

Looks like the beta will be a nice a holdover until Battlefield 3.

Looks nice.

Naughty Dog’s unveiled a slew of new Uncharted 3 gameplay features – including, yes, split/screen gameplay – as well as confirming the PS3 exclusive will be receiving a multiplayer beta and when fans can expect it to go live.

So, here’s what Naughty Dog’s confirmed recently for Uncharted 3 (via GT):

  • Multiplayer beta arriving on June 28th – Get the beta with inFAMOUS 2 or PlayStation Plus subscription
  • Sprinting confirmed for multiplayer
  • Split/Screen confirmed
  • Customization options available to players in the multiplayer modes: headgear, etc. Update: It has been confirmed you can customize weapons, too.
  • New modes such as ’3 team’ deathmatch (2v2v2) and free for all
  • Ability to customize weapons (red dots, acog scopes, clips, buttstocks, etc)
  • ’3 team’ deathmatch, tag team style “clap hands for cash”
  • New ability to kick off enemies hanging from ledges
  • What 3D brings to Uncharted(climbing on ledges, looking down at the abyss, hiding behind cover and feel the depth of the scene
  • Players who play in 3D might have an advantage over players playing in 2D
  • Cinematic moments from the campaign will be featured in multiplayer – Possibly similar to Killzone 3 Operations
  • Possible emblem editor

Meanwhile, at the Naughty Dog Forums, some posters aren't on the same page:

"Honestly, they can do whatever they want to the MP. Killstreaks, loadouts, sprint button, etc. They can turn it into a friggin' Call of Duty clone. Make Sully zoom in piloting a chopper gunner if you get 7 kills in a row. Give the whole team Situational Awareness at 11 kills.

As long as they include a classic, bare-bones Deathmatch playlist that has none of those shenanigans.

If they want to have any shot at pleasing all their fans, old and new alike, then they really have no choice. Because I guarantee if the game pans out like it's appearing to, it's going to upset a lot of the veterans. Myself included.

Seriously, the silver lining for me through all Uncharted 2's issues was the knowledge (or assumption, I should say) that Uncharted 3 would be an improved version on all fronts. They would continue the formula that made the first game so great; the same simple, unique format, with beneficial tweaks everywhere. Like, say, more comprehensive matchmaking to improve lag. Balanced boosters (or lack thereof/differentiating playlists). Improved melee system. Late joining, to combat quitters. Mercenary playlist. More weapons. More maps. More characters. Character customization (appearance-wise). A better leveling system. More streamlined cinema mode. Closed party lobbies. Maybe some new modes, to please non-Deathmatch players. More co-op, etc.

There was a winning combination already there, it just needed some more refinement. You look at your community, you listen to their suggestions, and you find ways to make your game better. You do not simply examine what makes a game popular and try to emulate it, just so you can sell more copies. The people playing said games aren't going to stop doing so, just because some clone showed up. As I've said before, Call of Duty players aren't going to switch over to a third-person shooter trying desperately to be their favorite game. Instead of reaching a broader audience, you're alienating the people who have stood by you since day one, while bringing in some new players who might enjoy it for a week before dropping it for something else. You are not building a lasting, dedicated fanbase that way, at all.

I know it sounds like I'm absolutely trashing UC3, and I'm not, really. I'm sure it could be fun, and I'm aware that we haven't seen enough to make truly informed statements about it. But things look pretty bleak for me. This is not what I was hoping for/expecting, especially after so many of us have spent over a year giving Naughty Dog nonstop suggestions and advice. We've dilligently stuck by this game as it took a bit of a nosedive, because there's nothing else like it out there. That is what has made it so great to me, because it's not Call of Duty, or Halo, or anything else. It's just Uncharted. It's simple, yet so well-executed that it just works. I will be legitimately sad if the next installment breaks that mold.

And to reiterate what I said in my first paragraph; if all these crazy additions are actually happening, please, please give us a classic mode option. I will not complain about anything, so long as we at least have that."

it does take itself less serious. but it would make the multi a lot of fun. which is the point of multis.
