Not counting 3D, what's the next logical step in term of resolution for TV?

How long before we'd see the next jump?

Would it make sense to even go higher since 1080P is just already smooth on 60'' and lower.
So, unless we go beyond that screen size, there won't really be demands for higher res.

With living space getting smaller and smaller due to over population, we might even see an "upgrade" to smaller screens.

With all points above taken, the next gen for home console will most likely be the longest lasting gen ever, considering that they are all capable of 1080P/60fps.

What do you think?

4k and 8k probably... cause it's used a digital film standards.. 4k is around 4096 x 2304 and 8k is 8192 × 4320

Youtube has 4k films already: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=5BF9E09ECEC8F88F

That's the next standard for TVs but it is still few years before an adoption in Japan and another few years for Europe/USA so if next gen consoles can  make 1080p@60 fps we probably will experience first real 10 year long lifespan of consoles.

Cramming more pixels into a small space would only increase cost and negligiable improvement to the naked eyes.

That's like putting 1080P in a 4'' screen. All those extra burn more battery than practical usage.

Also, if we're going 4000P, our living room would be like the cinema, LOL. I am sure everyone lives in such a house.

You are wrong. Pixel density is very important part of picture quality. And at 4k with a 40" we wouldn't even have to run any anti-aliasing.

Not counting 3D? Nothing.

The normal human eye can't register resolutions bigger than 1080p unless it's a really big screen, and besides, HD isn't even adopted everywhere, 3D is in an even weaker position.

Pull them through first say I ;)

It's also about pixel density.. here a great example from the iPhone3gs and 4:

Like I said, I know such resolutions exist, but you won't see THAT much of an advantage.

Well yes but you said human eye can't register anything bigger than 1080p ;)
