Forums - Sales Discussion - why did mass effect 2 only sell 2.3m on 360?

@darth tigris  u mad???   anyway, i thought that bioware said it sold. 2.3 between 360 AND PC, not trying to crap on the game i love it, but it might be overtracked. On topic i didint own a 360 and as good as the game is there was no way in hell i was buying a 360 just to play one or two games, waste of money.

I would not say I hated it but they did lose a sale in me, after reading the reviews I bought it 2nd hand, played it, and traded it back in.

My problems with ME2 were, way less story progression then ME1, there were about 3 missions involving the main story.  Less exploration, less puzzles and more lineair corridor shooting then ME1. No attachment to the main char since I lost my ME1 save due to RROD.

Plus it killed off my favorite char on approach to the last mission because I had not upgraded the ship, not liking the mining mini game.

I'm glad 3 will have a bit more RPG elements, hopefully that doesn't just mean a few more upgrades for weapons and armor, but also more exploration and puzzles.

At least it wasn't as big a step back as DA2 was.

whoops, nevermind it has sold that much on 360 only and about 100,000 PC retail copies. Not bad but damn the game is good it should have done more. Lot less worthy games have sold  better IMO

then how many you expect it should be...?

If Mass Effect 2 is a commercial failure, then what does that make LittleBigPlanet 2? That game has sold only 1.17 million units in 12 weeks, while its predecessor sold 1.82 million units in its first 12 weeks.

Anyways, BioWare games never get the attention they deserve. The truth is, Mass Effect 2 is arguably the company's most successful console game to date. Dragon Age: Origins was released on TWO CONSOLES on the SAME DAY, so I don't think it's fair to say that it's more successful.

That's cause LBP released in holiday season while LBP 2 released in Jan which is the worst month to release a vidoe game in. Sony really messed up with LBP 2 :(

Too many haters

- RPG fanboys complained it was too much of a shooter and was too dumbed down (though likely not playing it enough to recognize the RPG depth)

- Shooter fanboys came in expecting GeoW in space but found out it had too many RPG elements and wasn't as refined as what they're used to in shooters.

- PS3 fanboys took every chance they could to minimize how good the game was due it not being a PS3 exclusive.

- Mass Effect haters kept harping on the problems of the first game (which there were many) and how it's not worth it.

- Bioware haters came out in force to evangelize on how formulaic and boring Bioware games are

- EA haters came out to say how much EA is ruining Bioware and how MGS should've bought them out instead and the game suffers because of it.

- Multiplayer fanboys complain that there is no multiplayer so why bother

Man ...... did I really type up all of that negativity.  I need a hug ...

You need to go outside.

The things you mentionned only concerns a certain cast of people on the internet.

And besides, those things don't make or break a game.

ME 1 was also released during the holiday season while ME 2 was released in January.

LBP sold over 4 million. ME sold 2 million when ME2 came out. Which game to you think will pass there succescer faster? Anyways LBP is all about legs. Watch the sales boost in the holidays.
