Should Nintendo keep the Wii controller for the Wii's successor?

I don't mind the design as it is, but maybe they should put a few more buttons close to the A button. I mean, how many people complained about there being "less" buttons on the controller... I wanna see what Nintendo does. I wouldn't mind a standard controller (even though it goes against their philosophy and direction they took with Wii).

I never understood the complaint about more buttons for the Wii controller. What games are there that actually need more buttons?

if you take the fact that i don't consider 1,2,plus,-,home, or the d-pad to be accessible in the wii-mote and nun-chuck configuration -- then all of them.  A, B, Z, c is just not enough.  nintendo could take a lesson from the move and just make a few more buttons a bit more accessible.

or the other option is to ship with multiple controllers.  the classic controller is a good viable option but as it doesn't ship with the hardware no game can really be designed without making itself playable via the wii-mote.

I consider the buttons enough and accessible. Playing Zelda using the D-pad for Midna and Items, 1 and 2 for map screen, minus and plus for inventory and item, to me, feels like the best gameplay of the series even better than TWW.

More buttons != Accessible

Metroid Other M do wonders with few buttons.

i don't consider the d-pad to be very accessible.  i forget the game but one of the ones i own let's you smash the d-pad in any direction and that worked well enough for me.  but the games where up/down/left/right all had different actions mapped the them as always a mess for me.

and just in case we're mis-communicating here ... i'm not implying more buttons increases accessability of a game.  i'm say i want the buttons the wii-mote has to be put into places my hands can reach them without having to look down to find the button (d-pad) or fumble the wii-mote because my entire hand has to move to reach them (1,2 buttons).

I think they could improve it by making a attachable/detachable controller - transform it depending on gameplay

fan made mock-up of the move before it was the move but i always liked the idea of this set up.  pretty simular to what you are posting so i guess in short - yeah i agree. xD



yes, keep the design mostly the same. Maybe swap out the d-pad for something lik the 3DS' thumb-pad, but otherwise don't change anything. The controller rumors for the SUPPOSED Wii successor are one of the biggest reasons I'm not buying into the rumors

Why would you like more buttons? Wii controller is fine: easy to pick and with some motion functions (sword in Zelda) that allows the remote to play with less buttons. Games like Super Mario Galaxy don't need all the buttons and play very well.


Well I'm not sure what other buttons are really needed. I'm also a player that has use nunchuck and wii-remote on Monster Hunter 3, and have reached rank 146. Most people use the classic controller... And I hated that control style because my hands felt handcuffed. I think it works just fine for every game that I have played on the Wii.



The only place left to go is force feedback IMO.  But is that possible with limited battery life?

 

I'm selling my Nintendo stock if the 'Project Cafe' controller rumor is true.
