Forums - Sales Discussion - Is Pinball FX2 really the top MSP earner on Xbox Arcade?

Is Pinball FX2 really the top MSP earner on  Arcade? I heard the company mention it on a podcast a few weeks back.

With all the tables released for it, you could spend two or three thousand on it.

I don't think they count DLC of retail games like COD map packs, just arcade games.

Great game and value if you don't have it by the way, I bought every table so I think I beleive them.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

Could be. From time to time they release new tables - the last one was pack that contained Marvel tables and in the next few days there will be some new space table for 240 MSP.

PFX2 is one f@cking amazing game :D

WHAT.

It could be ...

Outside of steam which (I believe) has a very dedicated userbase, most people seem unwilling to pay much (or anything) for games through digital distribution. A small, very inexpensive game with lots of low cost add ons could easily earn far more than a more substantial game that is sold at a higher price.

While I don't want to see this business model form, I think the only way the mainstream will (really) accept larger games through digital distribution today is through a modified shareware model; essentially, where you have multiple "episodes" and gameplay modes that are sold below what people are willing to pay.

For those that don't know the pinballfx2 business model, the game is a free download and you can demo all of the tables for free. The non-demo version of the tables are 240 MSP each, and some are sold as four tables for 800 MSP. If you have the previous pinballfx, you can import all of your old tables for free.

So far they have 17 tables released, another due next week, and after that they plan on releasing one a month. I also hear they have 8 more they are currently working on. And all the tables are easily worth 240 MSP each.

I only own Marvel Pinball on PS3 so I can't vouch for the original Pinball FX2 or any uploadable tables.  But what I can say is, they did a very good job.  Virtual Pinball is one of my favorite genres and in my opinion, one of the most overlooked in gaming.  And I think Marvel Pinball is probably the second best Virtual Pinball game I've played, outside of Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection.
