I want you to learn the from your competitors and start copying them for a change.

I would love you to have special divisions that make games that the Play Station crowd would want as Heavy Rain or Uncharted.

They do.  It's called Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Pokemon, Smash Brothers, etc...

Hahaha. Don't do that. You know what I meant.

You opened the door, I just walked through it.

But more to your point, are you talking about game franchises like those or develoment studios like Naughty Dog and Quantic Dream?

funny everyone is talking about power and graphics...I thought Nintendo fans never cared about that stuff

Not all of us.

It's true yet that I cared a lot about power and graphics during the SNES and N64 eras and even today. That doesn't change the fact that the ultimate thing for most of us keeps being gameplay.

Once again, it's easy to see that all this power and graphics claims come to inarticulate the rough and sometimes unfair critics Wii console got sometimes.

I meant both. And of course, I meant it as a complementary. I want Nintendo to keep offering what they have been offering all this years. I just want them to widen their appeal. I'm sure that would help quality third party support, paradoxically.

We see them openeing up to 3rd parties a lot more lately (look at the 3DS).   And with that massive new R&D center they are building, who knows what that will lead to.

They at one time had a series of studios that dealth with more mature themes (Rare, Silicon Kights, Factor 5) but they all broke off and then...well, we all know the rest.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

1. The marketability of the DS and Wii
2. The ease of development of the Xbox 360
3. Work with developers ressurect the Home Console RPG genre
4. Pack in a Double game like the NES. Game 1 = 2D Mario title. Game 2 = Wii Sports title .
5. Policy against microtransaction DLC in premium priced games - for example, a 10€ game with 5€ dlc is fine; but not for one which costs 50€ or 60€
6. Trade overteching for affordability. One of the major reasons the Wii won was because it wasn't overteched and therefore too pricey.
7. Better Internet interface, if the controller has a touchscreen, put an easy to use keyboard on it. Allow for using top social networking sites and programs, or offer something equal to facebook/twitter with the Nintendo charm.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

 Dear Nintendo...

1) Make it so that my girlfriend and I can play it together.

2) Release lots of pick-up and play multiplayer games for it. Wii Play Motion will outsell Pandoras Tower and the Last Story combined. Think about that when you develop your next console I don't care about multiplayer games on handhelds but my home console is meant to be played with friends!

3) A "Super Wiimote" coupled with a Kinect-like camera would be amazing. Nintendogs and Warioware would be perfect for this.

4) Make it feel like the Wii did during its first years on the market. Make people excited about it. Make it so that everyone wants to play it.

5) Release new games for it! Wii Sports Resort, Wii Fit, etc. were the new games of last gen. Now we need new ones.

6) Make it HD but don't focus on the graphics. Keep the costs down to about 300$ for us consumers.

7) Leave the "hardcore" games to the 3rd parties. YOU take care of expanding the market and 3rd parties take care of the "core market". You have to find the right balance. Having to chose between no 3rd party support and no expanded market games is a lose-lose situation for you. You have to pull this off no matter how hard it might be. All you need to get 3rd parties on board is to listen to their wishes. That doesn't mean you have to change direction.

I'm really worried about all these things. I'm optimistic for the 3DS because they will still release their biggest franchises for it and 3rd party support will offset Nintendo's lack of focus on expanding the market. But a home console is different. There is no Pokemon and games take longer to develop. With the 3DS Nintendo can focus on getting third parties but a Wii 2 definitely needs a huge focus on expanding the market even further.

1. A Direct 3D capable GPU.

2. A downclocked 4 or 8 core Power6 CPU.

3. 2 GB of DDR3 and 2 GB of 1T-SRAM.

4. Holographic Storage for game media (Nintendo has a patent on this) or at least flash based media.

5. SSD.

6. 802.11n Wi-Fi.

7. Fully robust online infrastructure with steam integration.

8. Blow us away with something innovative.

more realistic would be

A quad core IBM CPU with an intergrated AMD GPU equvilent to a 6550 with 24MB intergrated frame buffer (enough for 1080p with AA), 1GB GDDR5, A variant of Blu-ray created by Panasonic without movie playback, A small SSD, 802.11n, A online system similar to the one the 3DS has...

and even that is probably a tad optomistic in RAM alacation

@TheVoxelman on twitter

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

  1. Graphics that are not horrendously outdated the moment the console hits the shelf (unlike the Wii)
  2. Adequate game library and 3rd party support
  3. New core Nintendo IPs and franchises, instead of the same old boring ones that Nintendo has been rehashing for the last 15 years
  4. Robust, feature-rich and easy to use online system

Give me these 4 things and I might consider picking up a Ninteno system again after all these years (the last one being my beloved SNES), but since Nintendo is stubborn as a mule, I don't see this happening.
