Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Dear Nintendo: For the Wii2 I want______(insert suggestion)

1. Better graphics.

2. Not so expensive.

3. A new Super Smah Bros. (Obviously i do not need to mention it =P)

4. Retrocompability with all the virtual console, wii ware, wii and gamecube games. (For Free and maybe the possibility to upgrade them in graphics and online play)

5. Hard Drive.

6. 3D.

7. And something never seen =P

You guys think my set up is too costly?  I'll break it down for you.

1. A $25 - $35.00 GPU can top the PS3 right now.
2. Power6 is IBM last generation CPU.  The Broadway CPU in the Wii was at the time IBM's then last generation architecture.  A 4 or 8 core Power6 woulnt' cost much mroe now than the Hollywood chip cost them back in 2006.
3. RAM is insanely cheap right now.  4 GB at retail is under $40 right now.  Vendor costs would be closer to $30.
4. The holographic media is something Nintendo has already invested a lot of money into.  Flash media is already being used for the 3DS up to 8 GB.
5. SSD prices are also dropping.  I never said how large of a capacity.  Doesn't have to be a big one, just one to use.   16 GB is under $50.  Vendor price is likely closer to $35.
6. 802.11n is cheap.  $5 - $10 at most.
7. This is where it will cost a lot.   They could eat the costs, like Sony, or charge for the service like MS.  No way to tablulate a price here.
8. Well, this is Nintendo we're talking about.

So, still think this is too expensive?  I'm looking at a BOM of about $200 for everything.  They could charge the same price as the Wii at launch ($250) and still make a hefty margin per unit of $50.

Yes you are right but maybe a 300 dollars price would be more realistic and accurate price, what do you think?

Seriously NO MORE FC's and a complete overhaul of their online service. hell a friend list would be nice. If the rumors are true, I hope they learned from their mistakes with the Wii if not then I wont be buying.

I am inclinded to agree with you.  Especially if the 3DS retains its current $250 price.   It also would give a sizable margin to help with the costs of the online infrastructure.

Dear Nintendo,

For the Wii 2, I want you to do your thing and ignore the "core gamers" that abandoned you and don't really know what they are talking about. It hasn't failed you since the DS.

This 100%.

What is BOM?

if the $200 is the price of the components, then selling it for $250 would be a $50 loss, at least, taking into account manufacturing, distributing costs, as well as the retailer's cut.

i don't know all the technical stuff but it should be able to deliver better graphics than the current HD consoles just so we don't have endlees threads on how the WiiHD/2 is not next gen, blah blah blah....

But i do want the controller to be a siginificant upgrade to the WM it should still keep the camera in the controller, I don't like the bulb design "move" has.

The nunchuck should be wireless and with motion and a camera as well. The controller should have a pulse detector or something similar to the vitality sensor but it should be tactile/touch sensitive so that all one has to do is hold the controller normally.

BOM = Bill Of Materials.

We don't know what the cost of manufacturing is, or wharehousing, shipping, or retailer cut (though it's usually very, very little).   So you can't say it's flat out $100.  However, I think you missed the post slightly below that one where I conceeded that $300 is a better price.
