The one thing I find sad is that these users dont realize they are posting up their steam ids.. I know my Steam ID number, so i wouldn't fall for this. But I guess the general userbase isn't used to a 1 - 8 digit steam id.

Mine is 5 digit for anyone whe knows how Steam IDs work. =P

If he were real smart he'd put a set number of randon numbers in front and then 3 or 4 set numbers after it.  That way he would always know to throw away the first x and last y numbers and that would easily keep people from seeing their ID so easily.

Or to really make sure no one knows what's going on 2 in front and 2 behind.

All that is being banned is official Garry's Mod forum accounts. Steam accounts are perfectly fine. So the pirated just can't get official help to make games. Not much pervention there.

this type of anti-piracy measures i can get behind. Developer made ways to prevent and ban a user. Not some bs DRM system that screws your PC up.

Totally. Fighting piracy in ways that doesn't hurt legitimate buyers = win.

You are such a noob, 4 digits or less is the way to go.

See, this is a good way to prevent piracy in a game. They get the pirates and they don't harm legitimate users in the process.

Of course, there's some catches in this way, like showing publicly the ID,it's better to encrypt the number.

But overall, very creative.

4 and below are extremely difficult to earn.

Actually it was pretty easy, I just installed steam and got one.

they must have changed how steam ids work. Traditionally lower digit IDs are meant for the professionals who have played for a long ass time.

I've seen one and two digit steam ids sell for thousands.

Yeah.  Funny stuff really.  I find it weird though... how did people get the pirated game to work with Steam?

This confuses me.  Didn't know you could "Add" pirated games to your steam, i'd think you wouldn't want pirated games in your steam.

Now I'm interested on knowing my Steam ID :0
