1. Oh so let's forget about the people who kno what the fuck they are doing,

2. you do realize that those people probably love so much music due to piracy, which led them to buying more CDs, right?

3. I am still awating for statistics that support your stance.

1. Right, we did that when you said the publishers and developers were talking out of their ass or something.

2. Its not that black and white. Perhaps piracy increased peoples intrest in music, but I also think it made people value music less. I do believe it has helped some obscure bands become relevant. However, most pirated music is popular musicians and its a huge blow for them. Piracy forced the music industry to change. They can't really live off the music sales anymore, they have to tour and whore merch, etc.

Unfortunately, there isn't much to whore in the game industry. Games don't go on tour and nobody really buys the merch. They basically just sell the software. If people steal the software there isn't much else you can sell them.

3. And I'm waiting for yours. Not just bullshit studies from people surveying random kids on the street.

It's not my word though, here are several links to studies which show what a load of crap that view of piracy is:

I won't ignore your post. You have an argument, huh? That's ok, I will read this entire link, but nobody knows more about Capcom's busines than Capcom, just like nobody knows more about Crytek's busines than Crytek. If Capcom says that they have a problem with piracy on PC, then they have a problem with piracy on PC.

If you read the full Capcom interview you would know that SF4 actually outsold their predictions on PC and the reason SSF4 wasn't released was because he "didn't want the brand to be exposed to piracy" despite piracy on the 360 so not really a good example for lost sales due to piracy or Capcom knowing more about the situation...

And the fact that they are now porting 2 more fighting games (a genre that was never popular on PC) would suggest that someone at Capcom thinks that a PC release is worth doing despite piracy.

As for Crytek they expected to sell 7 million copies of Crysis 2 thanks to consoles and so far it's looking like it will strugle to out do the 3.5 million (VGChartz has Crysis 2 at just over a million retail between the three platforms ATM) the first did on PC unless PC digital sales are huge and it has strong legs, they wouldn't seem to have a good grasp on sales ether...

I am done, you literally cannot present me with ANY data to support your argument, yet call actual data (collected by governments and universities) biased. I think a wall can make a more valid argument than you can.

Maybe Crytek's problem is a shitty game and they just don't want to admit it. Crysis was just a very mediocre game past the half-way point and they got bit for it in the ass. Instead of admitting they fucked up they wanna find some scapegoat to make themselves feel better. Also, they cannot know shit about how piracy works because as I stated, and shown, piracy does not indicate lost sales.

people here dont know shit about free games, they dont know they exist, they only play popular games like cs/dota/sc which also happen to be better by miles then those free games. also those games have high skill caps.

edit: their are no such thing as low cost games, when da: awakenings released it cost as much as a full price game.

If top tier illegal software wasn't so easily accessible then maybe people take notice to the free or low cost options availble. I don't care if they aren't as good, perhaps they would get better if demand grew.

Imagine being a developer for an Asian studio and your biggest competition is high quality illegal software. That's horrible, its extremely difficult to compete.

That's not what I mean by a low cost option. I meant a game you can either play for free or for little money. For example, don't you get to play hours of WoW for just a dollar?

when it comes to wow, people pay the subscription. they just play 1 dollar an hour to sit on a computer and play it, while they are away from home.

their are no asian studios who release retail games. only thing they release are phone games, or facebook games, and they dont need asians to support those games, theirs all the people in the west who are already playing those games to death.

asian developers dont suffer because they dont exist in the retail world. theyr not even indie developers.

Asian developers do exist. Japan and South Korea are pretty big in that industry. There are other obscure ones around there. As I said before, its hard to sell games when your potential audience is getting top tier games for free or dirt cheap.

im excluding japan.

and like i said before all the devs are facebook and phone devs.

and if their were pc devs, they would use games to make the games, as i stated before in my command and conquer generals example.

and that so called potential audience isnt going to buy a 60 dollar game. so it doesnt exist. unless they play the game at a network with friends, unless they love it, and unless that game has good online which is anti piracy, then their will never be a sale.

You can't track how piracy is affecting sales. But when games are pirated more than units are sold, its pretty obvious piracy is detering potential sales.

You aren't giving me hard numbers, you're giving me a conclusion they came up with. Its easy to spin that data to other conclusions as well. But since their conclusion spins piracy into a good thing you accept it.

You look for any opportunity to defend pirates. I'm sure we'll have more discussions about this same topic in the future.
