Forums - Sony Discussion - The Official SOCOM 4 review Thread

How can that be? You got people saying it's pretty good, some saying it's average and others saying it's otter crap. Either the reviews are biased or the enjoyment of the game seriously depends on the player.

This is exactly what I expected the game to get and not because its a bad game but because its a PS3 exclusive. Yet again a Sony game is being downgraded due to loading times, glitches and every other excuse a reviewer can find while multiplat titles get a pass on all these issues. Its sad really.

Lol also the destructoid review is comical. Who would have guessed taking cover at a supply crate would replace the reload button with the resupply button. If it didn't replace the reload button with the resupply button the reviewer would have said "when you take cover behind a supply crate the resupply button doesn't appear" Genuis. What I used to do in the beta was take cover behind the resupply crate and resupply when I needed ammo. I thought it worked really well.

Oh well I can't wait for my copy next friday. I hope the Co op mode is good.

Oh yeah and check this out in the destructoid review. "PlayStation Move support is included for those still trying to justify the money they spent on one" Lol I don't think he likes the move controller. I think I like this dude Haha.

I kinda agree because I just played through the Battlefield Bad Company 2 SP campaign and it is complete garbage, yet all the reviewers just gave it a pass. I am so fucking burnt out on all the reviewers stroking all the FPSs that they think are going to sell millions.

I thought BFBC2 was good : (  Yeah you should go play Fallout NV then look at the reviews for that game and then get back to me. Thats a great example of multiplat titles getting a pass.

Edit. Oh wait your talking about BFBC 2s SP. Yeah I agree that was crap. The online was great though.

lol New Vegas was rated way too low. Easily a 90 plus game, however I always knew Socom 4 would get a mid 70 rating or something judging by the very first gameplay trailer.

Never looked great to me, but hey something similar happened with Quantum Theory, but nobody wanted to believe me when I said it looks average at best.

I'm not saying New vegas was a bad game but it had too many issues that reviewers overlooked. The same issues they downgrade PS3 titles for. Like I had to stop playing NV because it froze my ps3 to many times where I had to turn it off from the back and you couldn't walk more than 3 minutes without getting a few second freezes. The loading times even took 3-5 minutes sometimes.

only had freezes in the very last main quest, so I can't really comment on that (360 version)

Ouch. There goes my purchase...well, after the demo as well

Also, 80s? 75 would be lucky. There's no excuse for leaving bugs in. They should have been fixed!

In fairness, every game has bugs (some that are game breaking - like Crysis 2). The only issue is some games get a free pass while others do not.

True. But when a game has bugs highlighted (and let's be fair, the previous game wasn't 'up there'), and the developers ignore them and even add new ones (which seems to be the case here), it becomes a big issue for me

Same with Fallout:New Vegas, Fable 3 and, like you said, Crysis 2 (though I thought it was OK? Haven't played it much...)

Perspective is key here.

That was Slant Six that made the last Socom game. The same devs who are now making the new Resident evil game : (

Zipper are making this game and judging from how they regularly updated and fixed Mag, the issues mentioned in this review won't be an issue in 2 months. Zipper listens to there players and they work hard at fixing bugs.

Here's hoping...

Also, I hope they do a great job with the new Resi game, can't be worse than 5...but this isn't the right thread for that

I may give it a go at a lower price. I think if you enjoyed the previous then you'll like this?

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

ouch! i was hoping socom 4 to be one of those surprisingly awesome games but i guess not.

similar to Too Human then. I really liked it (8.5 for me) and I know that quite a few people are with me even on this site, but many others thought it was average or bad.

Just saw that Jim Sterling gave Too Human a 2 back then lol

depending on ign and gamespot review, this may have cost my purchase of this game.

i was always hesitant about it, since it was some NATO global task force thing, and not US Navy SEALs. it seemed like it wanted to be to politically correct, especially throwing in the tolken girl sodier.

Perspective is key, but one game shouldn't be penalized over others with similar (or worse) issues. None of the reviews have called any of SOCOM 4's bugs "game breaking" nor plentiful, so the issue shouldn't be made into somethig it isn't.

Still doesn't negate the fact that even the most polished titles out there have bugs.

Honestly I've watched the GT review and I can't even remember that they talked about bugs. Well except for the last few seconds though I thought they just added it for the lulz

Actually women serve in the South Korean special forces. That is the reality of the character and why she is in the game considering where it takes place geographically.

I stopped liking the series a long time ago. The first one was great second one was good and the rest were all crap. This should get around the 7's or 8's range.

yep, but not in the SEALs, nor would SEALs have a multi-country/gender unit.

the games name is should be SOCOM: global taskforce

actually not even  socom, since it not
