With the next Nintendo Consule potentialy geting announced this E3 2011. What will Nintendo do to help itself forward in this 3 way cage match battle royal.

I see 2 paths clearly outlined..

One. Go up-market. Launch a PC-esk consule as powerful as the company dares. and try to gain 3rd party support.

Or Keep going with its Wii idea of modest graphic's but solve its 3rd party problems, by opening as many 1st party studio's money can buy.

What do you think Nintendo should do?

Let's copy and paste the reply from this other thread

Next generation will be true full HD for all consoles, so will the Oz. For media I don't want another noisy optical disc, like some of us have already discused, Nintendo should start using cartriges again (SSD). I'd like to see more interaction between the console and handheld, maybe both the Oz and the 3DS can do it this time around. Have them complement each other and enhance gameplay. We've seen a few examples in both the GC and Wii, but I'd like it to be more common.

I want to see what surprise they say they have. Additionally, improved Wii inputs with biometric readings and wireless connectivity between them with a charging solution. Also there should be obviously improved graphics (should be cheap enough soon, AMD Llano's is here already), since they are going HD. Return to SSD media instead of optical (add optional drive for backwards compatibility). And more interactivity between the 3DS and Oz, have a reason to buy both console and handheld (something Nintendo should be all in for), where both can complement each other.

PS: Nintendo Oz = Nintendo On xD
OZ turns to O

I hope nintendo doesn't announce a new system this year

all i want is more games and a NORMAL console NOT Wii 2 i hate motion controls

Lack of power is not why the Wii doesn't get much third party support up to this day, its curveball success is the reason for that, since everybody bet on the PS3 smashing the competition (can't blame 'em). I thought everybody knew that. They started badly, and they lost hope quickly, hence the result.

Anyway... their next console will be at least as powerful as the PS3, and probably much more than that. I say, get them studios.

I voted for new gameplay, but more first parties are equally important. If only it were as simple as throwing money at studio acquisitions. Nintendo knows it doesn't work like that and the only way to successfully grow a company is slowly, in order to maintain quality and common work ethics.

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

mini-games on consoles, cinematic games on handhelds, what's next? GameBoy IMAX?

* I would guess a 2.4GHz Quad Core processor,
* 4 Gig Internal drive with expansion slots
* New Trinity Zenith based motion controls combined with Protean Percipeance tech that Nintendo has invested over 2 billion dollars into

Console will cost 30,000 yen.

. The console will be more powerful than PS3 but probably not as powerful as PS4/NextBox, but powerful enoguh to get next gen ports (Sony and MicroSoft aren't going to make as big a jump as this gen anyways).

. Motion Controls will be improved and will be the primary controller (FK all those who want them to go backwards towards DA again, go get a PS4/NextBox!). They'll add 2 or 3 more buttons, it will be touch sensitive, some sort of feedback tech, maybe even some kind of touch feature?

. It will have some kind of new hook/gimmick to set itself apart, maybe something to do with the vitality sensor tech, who knows...

.We are going to get 'Nintendo online', an online system with some nice social features that will make multiplayer  gaming a blast and I'm pretty sure it will be free.

.The games will be awesome! There will be a nice balance of games for all demographics.

.It will launch with F-Zero and StarFox!  B)

.It will get a bunch of third party ports from this gen upon launch, like GTA 5 with full motion control gameplay (like GodFather for Wii).

The ports will look better than PS3 and 360, which will give Nintendo fans a year or so to gloat, mock and troll HD gamers about how their graphics suck! xD

-The only thing I'm not sure about is the amount of RAM it will have. I'll be dissapointed with 1GB, happy with 2GB and overjoyed with 3-4GB. RAM will be really important next gen.

But looking at 3DS' RAM compared to DS gives me hope.

I expect a combination of the above. More third party support is critical, but I also think Nintendo should be moving to expand their first party studios--either through acquiring existing studios they already work well with or by setting up new teams. I don't expect to see massive innovation in control interface, but perhaps a form of 'soft' innovation like 3DS' social connectivity/wireless features, with a more obvious pull (like 3DS' 3D screen) to grab headlines and wow audiences initially. I definitely think Nintendo should move to have a machine that has graphical capabilities on par with or above the PS3, to help bring in more 3rd party support, as well as an improved online structure and serious integration and connectivity with 3DS. Considering the big deal they made about GBA/GC connectivity several years ago, Nintendo have done very little with what would have been easier (wireless) connectivity between DS/Wii.

EDIT: I'd also like to seen an expansion of Virtual Console as a cross platform service--you could have one account for both your 3DS and N6, and play your VC games on both these systems. Perhaps start playing something like Secret of Mana on your N6, then transfer it onto 3DS if you're away from home at the weekend and wish to continue playing. Obviously being able to transfer over your existing WiiWare/VC purchases is a must--if Nintendo didn't include this in their next system I would be seriously put off.
