See I cheer on Anonymous, mostly because they are shaking the corporate and government ladders. As the Joker said in Dark Knight... "Introduce a little anarchy. Upset the established order, and everything becomes chaos. I’m an agent of chaos. Oh and you know the thing about chaos, it’s fair."

It's not "fair" when it ruins the fun for the bystander who just wants to be left in peace.

Choas is rolling a pair of dice.  Order is rolling a pair of loaded dice.  The later is only going to seem "fair" if you own the dice, and I assure you that you do not.  Sony has done as much or more to ruin the fun of the innocent bystander as Anonymous has.  PSN was innaccessible for a couple days, rootkits posed a threat for months and would have continued to for years or decades if they weren't caught.

Theese conspiracy theories are getting to the point of pure silyness... Sony is trying to prevent piracy on its system and you guys are thinking that they are trying to take away your right of ownership of something you bought... Like some sort of "Sony police scquad" is going to come to your door to reclaim "their" PS3 because "you dont own it" and they want it back to make a giant PS3 robot to take over the world.

You can take your PS3 and set it on fire and no one will give a shit. You can take the componets of YOUR PS3 and make a hat and Sony wouldnt give a crap.

Hell sony did not even take away other OS! You can keep the damn thing, just dont update your system!  This whole thing is just dumb.

Sony got access to tens of thousands of IP addresses.  What exactly do you think they plan to do with them?  Rootkit proves that they are willing to do illegal things to try to stop hackers, using code that was not theirs to use, so what is to stop them from doing illegal things to suspected pirates?

You do not have the right to never be offended.

This wouldnt be happening if someone did not open their arrogant mouth and keep the crack they made to themselves. Its simple! No Hax/pirates = No Problem.... wtf is so difficult to understand? Keep the OS if you are so inthralled by it... just stay off PSN where people dont give a crap about other OS and just want to play games

Not updating means not being able to play a lot of new games, especially the high profile ones that often come with updates, and again takes away PSN.  Why exactly do you think that fans of OtherOS, who paid for that feature as much as they paid for PSN and gaming by buying a PS3, would not be interested in these things?  Oh, that's right, you're not interested in OtherOS so people who are must magically have the exact opposite opinion about these other features you mention.  Silly me, thinking that a person could share your interests in gaming but also enjoy OtherOS.  I'm ashamed I made such a stupid mistake.  Only a complete idiot would think you could be a gamer AND appreciate OtherOS.

Wait, that's not quite right...

Sony is not trying to control you and your mind. The gaming industry has been the same it's always been. I buy my console, I BUY your games, I play my games, My game gets lost/stolen/broken I buy a new one, that's how it's always been and you know what? That's always seemed fair,  I don't see what Sony is doing that's so radically different to the model that was around in the SNES days when I started gaming. Everything was fine and dandy until people came out of the woodworks to ruin MY fun.

I'm glad I don't play MW2 because the hacks would have killed the game for me. I'm glad Sony stepped up their attempts to defend their business because who knows how long it would have taken before the hacks began to affect games I play? or some random tried to steal my card details.

I don't get this bullshit arguement of people saying they don't support the way Sony does business but are quite happy to buy PS3s, that makes no sense.

I also don't understand the desire to go up in arms when Sony is protecting their own investment, if I create something and someone tries to ruin it, I'm gonna do whatever I can to defend it from hell to high waters, I'll refuse to throw my hands up in the air and say "ah, ya got me!" It shouldn't work like that, people are quick to scream freedom of speech but the trick is, it works both fucking ways. Hackers act upon their "right" to attack, Sony acted up their "right" to defend. Only thing I don't get is why few seem to see this simple logic.

Regards to Anonymous: Fuck them! In no way shape or form are they fighting for me and my wants, my want is to have things simple, my console free and smooth and untempered with when I want to play my games how I want when I want. But low and behold, psn is unstable and I can't play my games how I want when I want so exactly how are their actions helping me? If things had stayed the way they were, I would be happy. I would buy my console, buy my game, play my game and that's the end of that. I've been buying games for Sony consoles, at no time did I feel I didn't own said game. Sony is not trying to rob me blind because there is nothing about the relationship and understand I have as a consumer of a business with regard to their product that is one sided.

Sony made the ps3

I wanted the ps3 but I had to pay an asking price for it

I thought the asking price was too much but instead of stealing it, I opted to wait for a price cut

When the price was what I could afford, I bought it and utilised it for what it was intended i.e playing ps3 games, not bloody emulated snes games or any other bullshit "benefits" of OtherOS, the exact same can be said for every game I've bought since.

The reason why all this pisses me off is because ultimately I'm the one and others like me who played by the original rules who get screwed over.

The obvious response is going to be "well, after all this, Sony is gonna try to impose strict rules on this that or the other and it's going to hamper your fun etc etc."

My arguement is, if everyone had played by the originally agreed rules before hand, we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. When you bought a ps3 originally, you knew what was required of you and what you required from Sony. If certain individuals hadn't breached that understanding, functions would not have been taken away.

I know someone is going to say "what about the ps2BC?"

I reply by saying

A: Why didn't you buy that before it was taken away?

B: If you knew it had been removed and it was the make or break feature of the console, why did you still buy it regardless?

C: Since the system was hacked, exactly how is that ps2 emulation coming along?

D: move along with the fucking times, we are no longer in 2006 anymore where the ps3 had no games.

In summary: Sony hasn't ruined my fun, if anything, they've imporved on it. There's a reason I've stuck with them since the psOne era it's because I know exactly what I'm getting from them and that has not changed since then. The only reason that will now change is because someone (hint: not Sony) did not read the script.

Yes, you buy your console and you are free to do with it as you wish, but the moment it starts to fuck with me and my enjoyment of my games is the moment I start to question your eligibility to freedom.

Quick correction. You actually do. if your firmware is not the minimum requirement for a game, you will be forced to update, this is how most offline gamers get their firmware updates.

kk my bad.... HAH well thats interesting.... Agree to the term of use or dont thats still your choise... None of these new games were promiced to you whe you first bought the system :)

Edit: Just to think all of this could have been avoided >_<

@Ajescent - If you could stop blatherign about inane bullshit for liek two minutes and actually read what others are writing you might be able to get it through your extremely thick skull that the biggest issue here is that Sony has gotten people's IP addresses for merely watching a youtube video, and not everybody who watched that video had the intention of replicating the process.  There is nothing they can do with that information that is at all legal, other than posses it, and I can assure you they didn't pay a lawyer to go get a list of numbers that are in and of themselves useless.  So, you see, what anonymous is attacking them for is the fact that they are clearly about to do something nefarious themselves.  I really don't get this logic that it's okay to break the law just because someone else might have.  And hacking your console has already been held in court as legal, BTW.  What Sony is suing Geohot for is breach of contract, which con only apply if it's proven as a certainty that he had a PSN account.

@ant - Yes, but regardless of which choice you make Sony is still taking away advertised functionality.  That's a big no-no, and history isn't on their side in regards to who wins these types of lawsuits.  Oh, and to help clear up that second mistake you made there, PSN was announced before the launch of the PS3 and launched day and date with the system.  There was never a time when PSN was not treated by Sony as a free online service primarily dedicated to the PS3.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

Another thread defending Sony, another thread full of ignorant people who hilariously want corporations to have more power, because... I don't even know WHY they argue for them.

The end result is this. Guy buys hardware, guy changes hardware he paid for with HIS money, guys shares his hardware modification, company says that's a no no liek it's not his hardware. It honestly takes only handful neurons to realize how fucked up that is. A handful.
