WOW Sony website is the only place I can go to donate money to tsunami victims. get the hell out of here with that retardedness.

The point is still there in another form if you read on. Plus, you have to take into consideration that even on this board people who donated through PSN donated the couple bucks they had left on there account. Also, while there are many ways to donate to Japan not many people are going to just google it up and send money to just any company or website they see. PSN is one of those companies that the people who own Sony systems would most likly trust to see the money goes where it is needed. Not to mention it doesnt involve giving another company your infomation.

Good for them, they took down some websites. What about the PSN? Which I presume do not run on the same servers as a couple of websites.

Anonymous had a nice idea with the Wikileaks thing, supporting Freedom of Speech, this just seems more like supporting hacking and piracy.

Its not about piracy. I believe you are misinformed. Its because Sony is sueing Geohotz and making it seem like Geohotz is responsible for piracy when he had nothing to do with it. I suggest you do research on the situation.

Really?

What he did eventually led to MORE piracy but he did not hack the PS3 for people to play pirated games. Someone else used the code and made back up launchers for pirated games. The lawyers want to make it seem like its his fault when in reality there were pirates on the PS3 long before he hacked it.

That's not "having nothing to do with it."

Yes it is.

You don't charge gun manufacturers with crimes when people are shot.

You also don't give out guns to any random person, show them how to use those guns and then slink away when someone gets shot.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Ok fine.

You don't charge kitchen knife manufactuerers when people stab other people to death with their knives.

You give kitchen knives to anyone who wants one.

We fight for consumer rights!

*Takes down PSN and hurts the service that millions of people use*

We only for fight for some consumer rights that appeal to a minority, every other consumer can go fuck themselves!

Anon and their fans are hypocrits.

sometimes the majority must suffer in-order for change to occur. and if they do what Im thinking they will, it will benefit consumers for a little bit. free content!

Your a fool and I don't think I'm going to talk to someone who is willing to exploit the innocent just so they can get some free games and some internet cred.

Its not about free games or internet cred. its about whats right. I have the right to modify my console, and help others be able to do so. Its like cell phones, they can be legally modified and jackbreak software is regularly available. What is the difference between a console and cell phone in terms of electronics? nothing, they both are specialized computers. So if i can modify my cell phone, I can modify my console. If the instructions to modify more cell phone is online, so should the instructions to modify my console.

This isn't a Civil War, this isn't even a national crisis, this is a bunch of hackers getting pissed off because they can't get what they want. Consumers are happy with what they've got and now the 'freedom fighters' have come along to ruin the services we already have and like.

You do not get to choose what the rights of millions of people are.

You do not have the right to fight for my rights.

You do not have the right to fight for your rights and act as if your special, knowing that it'll hurt the rights of millions to feel safe and use a good service that they agreed to.

You do have the right to hack your console, but you don't have the right to go on Sonys PSN services or buy any of Sonys games.

You do not have the right to pick and choose between what is right and wrong. Hackers do not make laws, they are meant to follow them.

You do not have the right to take advantage of the innocent bystanders of this situation, which includes developers, other publishers and consumers.

You do not represent me, you do not represent the majority, you do not represent freedom.

We are Consumers.

We were happy.

We do not forget

We do not put up with needless bullshit.

Piss off.

I'd like to see some kind of opinion poll where you get your facts from, because it isn't safe to say whether the majority support or oppose this. In fact, I'd be safe to say that the majority are in the "no opinion" category.

So what gives you the right to speak for those people, or lobby that you want corporate crackdown on consumer bought hardware? These people are consumers, too. They bought their PS3, so do not treat them as anyone lower than yourself.

Anyone can say they represent the majority, but unless you can back those words up, it's nothing but hot air.

I'm pretty sure that the majority of PS3 owners who use PSN are going to be pissed off that their service was taken offline, just because a few hackers wanted things their way. If they also felt that Sony was being the big bad world in this situation, then they would have reacted. Sony has done nothing to them, so they have no need to freak out about something this silly, on the other hand though, hackers have taken down their service. Sony does nothing bad, hackers attack the consumers right to go on PSN, I wonder which side they'd choose.

I'm pretty sure the majority of PS3 owners weren't online all at the same time to notice it. Once again, no facts, no persuasion.

They HAVE reacted. These are the consumers you are telling to quote "piss off".

Yeah, Sony are the big, innocent corporation here crying out buttrape. How about this? Instead of banning homebrew PS3s from PSN with extreme predjudice, why not enforce regulation of those consoles who DO cause damage to others? Why not? Because Sony do not wish to spend the money on doing procedures the right way, and are sending their brainwashed followers in to do their lobbying.

There is more than one way around this. Sony chose the 'cheaper, but hurt more of their base' path. And you're complaining when those consumers make a stand against this? That is pathetic.

It doesn't matter if they were all online at once, if the problems persist and continoue to go on, then the consumers will be pissed.

No, a few people have reacted, hell, most of the people arguing for Anon in this thread don't even have a PS3. Everyone else has shown they don't care by showing their lack of reaction.

Sony don't have to do anything, it's their service, they own it and you have to agree to their terms to use it. Why should they take the time and effort into creating even more circles around hackers on their service, when they could use just stop everyone all together. They have the right to protect their interests, my interest as a normal consumer and the interest of the millions who have agreed to their terms and conditions. You have the right to ignore their service and just mod your PS3, they aren't after you for putting homebrew on your console, they just don't want you using their services if you do, because you might be a potential threat. They let Other OS slide for a while and then Geohotz came along, claimed he cracked it, bragged about it and Sony have decided that they'd rather be on the defensive instead of allowing any similar hacks to happen in the future.

I'm complaining because when the group that screams for 'consumer rights' attacks the very consumers they're apparently protecting, then they can piss off. Anon and their followers are hypocrits who just want what they want and damn the consequences that could harm anyone else.

This post is just reeking of false facts, the point was that they were directly targeting anon as purposely hurting tsunami relief efforts which is just ludicrous. From the information I have gathered Anon is more then justified with whatever actions beyond acts of violence.

Yeah, i mean people DO do that.  People sell semi automatic rifles to people, along with an automatic conversion kit that turns the semi-automatic rifle into an automatic rifle.  Though gun sales usually do require background checks, hence why I changed it.

I mean, it's legal to teach people how to build a NUCLEAR bomb, but it's supposed to be illegal for some guy to learn how to setup his PS3 so he can run linux?

Interestingly, sony is on the lookout in the case they're being sued in for any proof that people who used linux used it for servers.  Further goes to support the claim that the reason Sony removed linux was because nobody was buying the expesive Cell blade servers because a cluster of PS3's got things done waaaay cheaper.

Though I guess it is a good point.

Really sony are the ones who sold the gun.

Oh, by the way, the official Sony line seems to be... "They didn't shut us down, we didn't have any problems, we were running sporadic scheduled maintence.

Hey, your the one coming in with the gun remarks, I'm just saying that it was a silly use of the term.

I also don't like dancing around with analogies, because a real point can never come across right.

Like, I can change your knife analogy and say 'You can't give a kid a poisoned tip knife, nudge them into stabbing someone and then expect to get away with it'. It's silly.

Your point can only work if the thing that Geogotz did was claimed to be legal, but as of right now, we don't know if it is, so the analogies then start to fall apart.
