Forums - Sony Discussion - The Vgchartz ranking game--God of War 3!

The Good:

1. Graphics: Great lighting, animation, backgrounds, scale, etc. GOW3 excels in this department.

2. Solid opener: I have to say God of War 3 has one of the best openings of all time. You fight Poseidon on Gaia's back. That's pretty epic stuff. The game went downhill after that, imo.

3. Soundtrack and voice overs: The soundtrack is pretty good, and after playing The 3rd Birthday, I have to give games like GOW3 credit for not having terrible voice acting.

Neutral:

1. Felt more of the same: It's not necessarily a bad thing that it's more of the same, but after playing the same thing three times (four if you count CoO), I'm a little worn out of GOW's gameplay. Sure it had more weapons, but they majority of them felt the same, and I felt that the Hercules one felt overpowered. Also, anything new it added (like the harpies) didn't set well for me. Also, the box level was pretty boring especially the one where you had to protect the chains. All I did was spam L1 plus square.

2. Boss fights: Only about two boss fights stood out for me: Poseidon and Hades. Zeus's final battle didn't live up to the one in GOW2, and the other Zeus battle was pretty laughable. Cronos was all flash but no substance. The others were average.

3. Puzzles: Some of the puzzles in this game were either boring or dragged too long (like The Garden one). The only ones I liked were the ones with Pandora.

The Bad:

1. Story: I thought it was garbage. Just a silly revenge story that forgets what caused Kratos to be angry at the Gods (this is evident near the ending). Somewhere in the middle, Kratos beings to feel sympathy for a character, which was poorly executed. It was all revenge, kill, revenge throughout the whole game, so how am I going to buy that he has a change in heart? The ending with the whole 'hope' thing was laughable.

2. Kratos: I liked Kratos in the first game, because you felt a little sympathy for him. He got betrayed/manipulated into murdering his family. One of the last fights in GOW1 reinforces that he still thinks and cares about his family (the fight with multiple Kratos). Kratos in this game, however, was unlikable. He was just a ruthless murderer; he killed everyone who got in his way. I wanted him to die. Didn't buy his change of heart, and the ending bit with Pandora didn't sway me into liking him.

3. Replay value: The game took me 8 hours to beat, and there wasn't much to do after that aside from trophies and challenges. Taking into other hack n slash games this gen into consideration, GOW3 has poor value. Bayonetta has numerous unlockables and stuff to discover (like the portals). Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 has co-op and four different characters.

--------------------------

All-in-all, not a bad game but doesn't live up to the previous two.

the scale was just amazing i mean cmon 10000 foot bosses, that is epic

the bad

all the wepons were basicly the same as the blades (execpt for 1)

and was it just me or did the graphics for zeus look kinda bad????

now i notice how people allways say the story wasnt as good as GoW 1&2 and i dont understand what they mean...how is the story bad??? its the ending of a trilogy! this is what GoW 1 and 2 have been leading up to! kratos finnaly getting his revenge and killing the gods WHAT MORE DID YOUS WANT?!?!?!?!?

Why can't I take part just because I rarely feel the need to post? ;( I'm on this site daily so I think my score should be accepted.

Anyway, this game gets a 10/10 from me.

Positive -

* Best graphics on console!
* Massive breath taking scenes and environments.
* Great boss fights.
* Brutal and satisfying combat.
* Epic sound tracks.
* Great story.

negative -
*Little short compared to GOW 1 & 2.
*Weapons similar to each other just different looks...

SCORE = 9.8/10

One of the definitive ps3 exclusives that shows the ps3's capabilities and the best hack & slash/action adventure game IMO.

9.1/10.

The story is kinda weird imo, especially the "hope" part; Titans are also a little disappointing, I was hoping for an epic battle between Titians and the Gods but they got annhilated by the gods with little effort. -_-

Everything else = pure awesomeness

Pros:  Awesome graphics. More fluid gameplay.  Immersive environment. Great characters , enemies and bosses.                  Epic sense of scale and music. Fast paced story and non-stop action. Fun puzzles.

Cons: Cliffhanger ending.

9.8/10

I'm only about 4 hours in (in the middle of Chapter 2) but I'd give it 8.1. It's got very high production values and fairly accurate fighting mechanics but that's about it. Honestly it's very repetitive like any other hacknslash game. And the story, well I don't even know what's going on in the story because it's not in the least interesting.

9.6/10

Reasons: http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/review/12533/god-of-war-iii/ (Yes, I know that's a 9.4, and yes, I wrote that)

Good:

  • Everything
  • Combat is brilliant
  • Story is enticing
  • Looks incredible
  • Just all around brilliant

Bad:

  • Camera angles, still.
  • Early sound glitches
  • The Challenges aren't nearly as enjoyable as in GoW2

In the end, I would say in retrospect that God of War 2 is just slightly better, and it's my second favourite PS3 game after Uncharted 2.
