its appears that many people here seem to believe that Sony must be running a loss through PSN, as they do not charge for it, citing that they believe that this cannot go on and they will ahve to follow the Xbox Live example. (i'm sure PSN does alright out of PSN Plus and store purchases to cover most of the costs).

Xbox live is not about covering costs of running the service, it's about making money, profit, from those people who subscribe.

Perhaps if every game had an added $1 to the RRP which went into the upkeep of the online environment, you wouldn't need to pay for the online subscription.

You probably wouldn't even notice the difference overall. $1 isn't much per game, if you're not a big gamer, you will only buy a small number of games a year, and if you are an avid gamer you may buy more, but you wouldn't have to pay the online subscription cost, and because EVERY game has the added $1, that adds up to a lot of money for the upkeep of the online community.

XBL is not worth the money, and is one of the reasons why I don't have a 360 anymore. I can find alternative free options anywhere else.

also their will always be steam.

pretty much this, I hope Sony isn't stupid enough to charge for thier online gaming next gen, that would be worse than launching the 600 dollar ps3 they won't lose money but a SHIT load of consumers. I know my home consle gaming days would be over.

 but I don't think they're THAT crazy, they'll keep the psn=/=psn plus model which is damn good. When I spend 60 bucks for a game I want the FULL damn game.....not half of it

I used to go online with my 360 but never really saw the appeal, I get a very similar service with the PS3 (heck, even the Wii now!) and enjoy playing on those just as much as on the 360. So I no longer pay for online

If either of the other two consoles charge for online, then I just won't play online. Simple as

It just doesnt make sense to me to pay for a service that all my life I never had to pay for, and on top of that if the only way to play online on a gaming console was to pay for the service I would jump back to PC gaming in a hearth beat, of course would have to buy a new rig but I guess it would be worth it :D, my tower is like 8 years old and my laptop is 5 so I guess I need an update, but like I say if its not broke why get a new one xD.

no i pay my ISP for internet access and i pay the developer for using their service when i buy the disk.

if there are optional additional services then i dont mind but paying two companies in addition to the game itself to play online is ridiculous.
