No! Upkeep costs simply aren't a good reason to pay for online in any game other than MMOs. Have a look at the long history of PC gaming and then voice your disagreement. I'm not going to pay for the whole service just to play online, and online itself isn't a good enough reason to make me pay. That said, I also don't care for MMOs much so I wouldn't pay for them either, but at least the cost is somewhat justified in those cases.

Anyway, I feel it is wrong to pay for online. When I buy a game, I am paying for the development of the multiplayer, so I see no need to pay for it again. I have paid for online a bit, because I want to play Halo Wars and Gears of War online, but I have paid for only around 4 months of gold in my 2 1/2 years of owning an Xbox

I would never pay for online if there are free options available. It doesn't feel right.

10p a day for XBL. Chumps change. I don't mind it too much, however paying up to $15 a month for ONE MMORPG, nty. It'd be nice to have the same and equal service for free, but on a grand scheme of things, I am not tight enough to hoard 10p, or even less, I just went off and brought a 3.50 mothers day card, that's a month of my XBL gone already!

I was pretty hyped for DCU online at one point.  If I could have actually found a copy of the game the day I was looking for it, I'd be paying for online right now.

Nope, I would join PC gaming if Sony were to charge for online gaming. I already cancelled xbox live gold, and I haven't missed anything since.

no its not.

i already pay for my internet. so i shoudnt pay for online gaming. if all consoles next gen  have pay to play il still have my pc and the best thing that ever happened to man kind. dota, with rgc support.

Since this is where I do most of my online gaming anyways, I don't think I'd miss PS4-XBOXnext online too much if both becomes subscription base, especially as MS seems to want to raise the subscription up over time. By all means create value added service such as facebook, cross plat-chat, cloud saving, twitter and cable-tv etc, add them all to a premium subscription base service and throw in a freebie once every month. But online play should be availible to everyone who purchase a game. And with respect to this, I will PRAY that sony continue with their current model.
