OT i could see this getting ugly, either people will bitch that HVS sucks or they'll get mad at reviewers who gave it too low or score of something. either way we might be in for a treat

HSV always sucked at best a mediocre developper...who knows they had no chance making a great FPS for the HD consoles/PC..  Who then used good PR 'The Wii Rules,...Buy our game!  Wii fanboys totally got brainwashed some even said 'The Conduit will be the next Halo kind of game'?   Hyping it up as one of the best exclusives for the Wii...   If the Wii had more third party support people would have laughed with the devs..

I'll wait for more reviews I reckon. The text means more to me than the score anyway

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

^^^ i do remember some of them saying it would be Halo for Wii, that was stupid, but in the Wii fans' defense, the media was also hyping it, Conduit was getting a few "best of E3" awards from sites that supposedly hate the Wii. After playing Conduit i learned that a Best of E3 reward dont mean much. (looking at you Tekken 6)

Yes best Wii shooter and best Wii game at E3?

And I understand that someone nominates Tekken 6 for best of E3 awards considering they would probably just saw the game and at best played a few rounds;.hard to judge when you have no total package;.

i've heard nothing but good things about chinatown wars -- that is to say nothing but good things until someone made a thread here about chinatown wars something something core games and nintnedo.  after that i hears lots of terrible things about the game but not before.

i've heard mostly positive things about black ops and MW2 but i've heard more noise concerning MW2.

personally, i've been burning from word-of-mouth just as often as being burning by reviews and I've got to agree with boutrous -- they're basically the same thing.

If you mean word of mouth to you personally, that's not what I mean. I mean in general, not anecdotally.

i meant both personally and in general.

I have two friends that played the game,...they both liked it a lot.

Here are 344 comments nearly all of which are cheering chinatown wars on

amazon reviews are glowing for both the ds and psp versions

that of course is very in line with ds and psp metacritic scores

i hate to derail this thread so i won't any further but your definition of good/bad word of mouth seems very subjective and easily influenced by whatever argument you are hoping to prove.

i like metacritic scores -- it is the absolute best way to remove as much subjectivity from and inheritly subjective task.

As I said it seemed strange to me that they gave it a 7.5. The shear level of customization, addition of classes and perks, improved cinematic story over the first....I dont get it.

I think the first should have gotten a 7. This ...well...I havent played it.

This ^^

Very odd that despite High Voltage addressing the vast majority of issues that gamers and reviewers had with the first one - particularly the level design and addition of proper cutscenes - and they deem the original one to be better. Very strange indeed. :o/

1. I meant in helping sales, which I agree is not the best use of that term. Sure people like Chinatown Wars, and it had better legs than its small openings, but the sale show it's a well liked niche game, instead of the mainstream games that the 3D games are.

2. Okay, listing the scores is technically objective (an opinion is subjective, but that someone has an opinion is an objective fact), but it still won't matter if the opinions of buyers differs, which is why I argued against the claim someone made here that reviews and gamer's opinions are the same. It's not just Nintendo systems which show that assumption is BS.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Was it the same reviewer? I don't think anyone asked that here.

As Crytek said so very well:

“You can’t take a 60 rated team and make a 90 rated game. That’s probably impossible. Let’s say you’re making a 90 plus rated game. Everything you do, every aspect that goes into the game, every person working on it, has to be 90 plus rated, or you don’t get to 90 plus rated.

You don’t make a 90 plus rated game with a 30 rated bush in the game. Everything has to reach this quality bar. Every person working on it has to put that kind of effort into it, otherwise you have to do some things that are at 94/95 to pull the average up to 90. This threshold is so difficult to attain. That’s a really difficult task for any developer to accomplish.”

Why? lol NintendoPower rated the first 8/10, and it got 69 on meta ...
