Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo 3DS: did it launch too early ?

I'm surprised no one's pointed out the lack of the 3DS shop.

That's exactly what I was going to point out!

Though I don't think the 3DS was too early, I do think that the eshop is too late!

No, they were mainly focusing on getting it out for the Japanese developers, who were beginning to flock to the PSP, for its growing user base and relatively decent but not small company breaking costs.

In America, they just dropped Pokemon, so they figureed not to need another big game yet to distract, besides not having one ready. It was the right time, it is probably just that if they had their choice (or more accurtately better control of the market) the 3DS wouldn't have been announced when it was leaked and it wouldn't have arrived in stores in Japan until either around Golden Week or a summer release.

Sony and that leak about it, forced their hands. They are sort of ready but not as much as they would have liked and the tsunami porbably is screwing things up for them as well.

There was never any leak. The very first report of 3DS was an official statement from Nintendo itself.

Complaining about the lack of good launch titles and then saying that OoT would have fixed that problem? This has got to be a joke thread.

yeah, I mean if people are all complaining about the number of ports on the system why would another port change that.

I think now is as good as time as any, battery life??? has about the same as PSP and im cool with that. not feeling the launch line up, but really its not like in the past couple of years systems have been releasing with great games anyway. For me having to choose from ports and remakes is not going to make me wanna buy a 3DS day one, but for someone who has never played these games, there in for a treat, ( i can only vouch for SSF4)

No I don't think the 3DS came out to early.

Battery life is a big one, but I think Nintendo intentionally gave us a weaker battery. They could have sprung for a more powerful battery that could probably give us like 6-8 hours of play. But Nintendo is smart they are thinking ahead, the next model will no doubt have a longer battery life.

The 3DS Shop, I think was another intentional move. Nintendo wants third party support and everyone's money to go to third party titles. If Nintendo released some VC games and 3DSWare then sales for third party games might dip. Also Nintendo knows people would pick up 3DS regardless of their online store. They are probably polishing it up and making sure their's no kinks.

As for software, Nintendo could probably have released like 70% of the games they've announced so far on launch day. But Nintendo knows that third parties need a chance to dominate the platform. We'll get our first party titles soon enough. I said the same thing when Wii launched and while I don't like waiting Nintendo is doing the smart thing!

I'm not impressed with the lauch lineup or the games that will be released in the first couple of month after the launch.  But I'm also sure it will sell a lot regardless so no it wasn't lauched too early.

NO!

Lol most launches are crap why is it all of a sudden new now that 3DS is out? This one has a few good games like SF and some other Nintendo games. The only good launch I can think of is the Wii with Zelda TP

Sheesh do people expect the best game on day one lol

I was going to buy it if Zelda came out on day one but now I will wait until it is released as I do not like any of the games out but that does not mean the are not good there are a few good games already.

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

^^^ im wondering the same thing, IMHO i think people just got too excited when the 3DS was first unveiled and we saw the REs, the Metal Gears, Mario Karts, Zeldas and what-have-you, they assumed that those games would be available for launch or near it. reminds me of pre PS3 footage where they were showing of all kinds of crap that never came to fruition. THe way this gen has gone you think people will learn, to never get hyped! Ever! keep your expectations reasonable or low and you can never be let down
