Forums - Gaming Discussion - EA: Paper manuals are no more

EA has announced that Paper manuals are now finished for them and are reducing all box paper content by 40%. Instead the disk will contain the manual and so will EA.com.

So no more pausing the game to flick though the manual and remember an button you forgot to do some move you require. Now its pause, scroll down the menus, find the controller section, and then find the button combination down an list if its there.

Basically this is an move of: We can reduce the cost of manufacturing and we can fire the people who make manuals designs to increase profit.

Anyways, I got dragon age orgins and that case weighs the most out of all i ahve of same size because the manual is thick enough to beat someone with

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

Here's hoping that it doesn't turn into some kinda trend...

why? while this is more of a profit motive then an environmental one, as an environmentalist I support this. Reduce paper, reduce waste, reduce deforesting. Basically a win-win-win.

I miss getting stuff like a whole big technical book for Homeworld or Empire Earth.

Now you  have to pay for the more expensive 'super awesomeness' version of a game to get stuff like art, maps, ect.

They just keep cutting more and more out and gaming is losing something that used to be special and cool to collect. I still have all the manuals from all my PC games. For the longest time I had all my PC game boxes too back when they were gigantic.

I remember the days of browsing through my better manuals very fondly, that's why.

Manuals were great, when the internet sucked, but now they are useless. I get more information about specific aspects of a game on a forums then I ever did in the manuals or strategy guides.

I do not speak about practical info, I speak of art, feeling, and fabula. The internet can't deliver that in the way I like it.

Thats why collectors editions are made. Even back in the day traditional manuals didnt contain half the awesome a collectors edition did.
