Forums - Gaming Discussion - Favorite In Game Enviroment Style

In platformers I love love love Snow levels. I find the added sliding around a small detail that adds challenge, and comon snow levels are so preetty!JRPG's again snow areas win. I blame FFVI for this one. Racing is probably th eonly time I dont like snow levels best and for racing its nightime.

Whats your favorite game enviroment?

P.S. Only Devils dislike snow levels!

I love snow too!! In shooters my favorite maps are always the snow maps. But I love so many other environments.

The standard Medieval Europe setting of most WRPGs and some strategy games like Age of Empires, Mount & Blade.

Castles and ruins and other historical settings. Just pretend a dungeon crawler in ancient Egyptian pyramids. Anything. There's so much. Uncharted 1 and 2 have very nice varied locations with attachment to historical buildings, objects and religion.

Deserts. (Red Dead, Quake Wars and Bad Company 2 come to mind)

Hell. (Dante's Inferno, the Oblivion realm in Oblivion)

Forests (countless of games thankfully). I love foliage!!!

The space sci-fi indoor settings.

WW2. Still love it. The trenches, the war machines, everything.

Small, claustrophobic dark areas. You don't know what's beyond that dark corner and you're scared of what you'll see pop up but your cursiousity pushes you forward to explore. Any game that let's me experience this sense of dread is a great game in my book. Ex: Silent Hill, Demon's Souls, Metro 2033, Siren: Blood Curse and arguably RE4.

Excellent choices, especially bolded. I absolutely love Medieval Fantasy and Sci-Fi settings.

Back when I was growing up, virtually every game had an "ice world" or a "lava world" or a "desert world", and I've consequently developed an indifference towards most "elemental" levels.

Part of the reason why I (unlike most gamers) prefer Mega Man 3 over 2, is that there are no "elemental" stages, except for maybe *giggle* Hard Man.

But back on topic, I can't think of any kind of environments, that I particularly like. Just the ones that aren't cliché. (e.g the Chozo Ruins in MP, the Giant World in SMB3, the Forbidden land in SotC...)

I like water levels, like Maridia or Hydorcity zone.

Everything in Metroid Prime.

Came here to say this. Tallon Overworld and Chozo Ruins impressed me the most.

I quite like them all, but Lower Norfair from Super Metroid pushes Lava/fire ahead.

SotN made me love the gothic style as well
