Why the hype?

It's a game made by Crytek, a rapidly growing developer whose previous games (Far Cry and Crysis) were widely acclaimed and heralded as having some of the best graphics tech available. Honestly, playing Far Cry on PC with all the settings up high and the scenery is still comparable to many games today.

On the gameplay side the original Crysis had large open areas, scenarios that you could deal with in your own way and combined some innovative abilities not seen in your typical military shooter. If they can replicate and enhance some of those elements then the game should be good.

From what I have seen from the videos and I even thought the demo had better lighting and textures than Killzone 3. In killzone 3 I found that a lot of walls have really low res textures. The water in Crysis 2 destroys killzone 3. In KZ3 the water does have ripples but you can see the pixels in them and also when you shoot the water just has a crappy little water splash thing. In crysis when you shoot the water not only does it ripple but it reacts and looks like its more physics based. KZ3 has some great looking scenes but it also has a crap ton of aliasing. So I say yes we wait for the final build but I don't think killzone 3 should have the graphics crown from God of war 3 or uncharted 2 hell I don't think it beats killzone 2. I think Killzone 2 looks better in my opinion.  So I'm sure I will get shit on by ps3 fans but I basically study a game when I get it. I am a graphics whore. So far from videos Crysis looks better to me. As to which verison I don' t know I am trying to figure out which one to get. I have all three, pc, ps3, 360. I know the pc will look better but I am a console gamer at heart so its kinda between the ps3 and 360. So i might not buy it on launch day just to wait and see to find out which verison truly is the best.

I agree with some of your points. Killzone 3 was pretty from far away but when you get up close to objects you see they aren't as good looking as you thought. For example the lilly pads in the water in the jungle in campaign looked pixelated and were just a texture map on the water and not free floating objects. There were parts in the game where the textures are super low res. Textures on the barrels in mp are especially bad. Also in Blood Gracht when you go up to the vines and plants on the wall they are super pixelated. Overall its still probably the best looking PS3 game. Uncharted 2 might possibly be a bit better. God of War 3 has sections where it looks amazing but Hera's character model is terrible and one of the worst I've seen in years in any game. Also Hephaestus (sp?) has terrible textures as well and the other females are just average character models. The lack of consistency keeps that from being the top in my opinion.

Judging from what I've seen from YouTube Crysis 2 looks better but I'll truly know in 36 hours when I have it in my console. I'm getting the 360 version. I think I'll fire up Uncharted 2 and Crysis 2 at the same time and compare.

Regardless if Crysis 2 is the best or not (which I think it will take the crown for now) I have no doubt Gears of War 3 and Uncharted 3 will be fighting for the top spot.

As far as killzone 3 probably being the best looking ps3 game, I do think Uncharted 2 looks better. Uncharted 2 is far more consistent with its textures, water, and snow looks way better in Uncharted. God of war 3 I agree has Character models that look god awful, but the titans and Kratos himself look amazing. There are some flat textures in God3 but overall the game has a polished look to it. In my opinion over all because it’s so consistent with everything Uncharted 2 has the graphics crown. Killzone 3 Just disappointed me I was expecting a giant leap over killzone 2.  Now Gears of war 3 and Uncharted 3 that’s a different story. Don't forget about Battlefield 3 that games animations look amazing. Anyway let me know how the graphics are when you get Crysis 2. I'm glad someone agrees with me.

I played all Killzine2,3 Uncharted2 and Gow3.

What I can tell is technically Crysis 2 has better graphic than all of them(killzone 3 in very close second place, effects are good but textures details are just...blur, low-res and small environment). But that doesn't mean Crysis 2 is a better looking game.

Crysis 2 has sandbox level design, amazing physics and lightning effects. And it looks so realistic. Just like Crysis 1, Crysis 2 has huge environment and great open game play. And this game looks waaaaaaaaaaaay better than red dead redemption in any way.

Simple, because the multiplayer demo was an old build, made by a different dev team, and the SP is the best looking game graphically for consoles.

Lmao, good one.

Uncharted 2 and Killzone 3 destroy it ( and are in real 720p ). ;)

How do you know it's not real 720p??

The demo?

The demo was a year old build on both systems.

Still have to wonder, if what they say is true, why would they release a demo in that state? Wouldn't you want the demo to represent the game at a better quality than that?

I know I haven't talked to you in a while but to answer that question Gran Toursimo 5. They released that demo time trail thing and it looked awful. God of war 3(http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-godofwariii-demo-vs-retail-blog-entry) that was a huge change from the demo to final. The reason they would release such a old build is because they probably didn't want to take the time to build a new demo it was probably a demo they used for e3 or one of the game shows. Given when the demos came out they were already in crunch time so they didn't have much time to spend on making sure a demo was up to date. It happens all the time. It was supposed to be a 360 demo exclusive as well, but pc and ps3 fans were pissed off and flooded the forums and so they pooped out a pc and ps3 demo.

As far as Killzone 3 goes yes they changed their anti aliasing tech to the god of war one, but I feel it didn't work as well as it did for God of war. There are a lot more jaggies in killzone 3 because of it. Now they also made the game brighter and added more color which makes the textures show up better. They did get rid of the film grain but now you can see really low res textures (flat textures) like crazy. What about the water? They did improve the water from killzone 2 it used to look like jelly but now it has this crappy little splash decal when you shoot the water. It does ripple but you can see the pixels in it. Crysis 2 well its Crytek there really good at water so it’s no surprise that there water looks better. Also there engine is beast they can edit stuff in real time. It’s not the normal way of building and porting. Basically they have a glitch they see it in real time they then go over to the computer and fix the code and bam it shows up in real time and they fix the problem. I thought from the demo on the 360 it already had many elements that looked better than killzone 3. The textures the lighting the draw distance, the motion blur. It just had this realistic look to it. Also the weapon models in killzone 3 didn't look as good to me as they did in killzone 2. Crysis 2's weapon models look fantastic. Over all I know you would just call me biased but I'm not I just call it like I see it. I will point out Crysis 2 flaws as well. Like the demo had shadow problems and hit detection issues and stiff death animations in the mutiplayer. So there is my feelings on the matter.

People need to understand that I haven't said that Killzone 3 is the best looking console game (though I'd wager that it's currently the the best looking FPS on consoles)

Until tonight at midnight or tomorrow for most. Plus I answered your question about the demo thing and you didn't respond.

I play games for singleplayer not multiplayer. so this is on my basis

because the first crysis/crysis warhead is still pretty much the best looking game ever. And this is a sequel to that. (I'll play it on PC)

Far Cry, and Crysis/Crysis Werehead were very open. With different tactics, and vehicles. Probably the my favorite FPS since... erm Half LIfe Episode 2. or bioshock (But bioshock was great despite its flawed shooting mechanics imo)

Do I think it will be the best game this year? No, my favorite is dead space 2 thus far. And I think Deus Ex: HR or ME3 has a better shot that Crysis 2. And maybe others.

Edit obviously this not including artistic merit. I'd rather look at, FFXIII, Dead Space, and a whole lot of ps2 and ps1 games artistically.

There isn't much blur in regard to textures in Killzone 3. The reason it was so present in Killzone 2 was because of the Quincunx AA they used (which contributed to muddy/flat looking walls and ground throughout the title). There's much less of that in Killzone 3 (in fact, it's one of the most detailed games available), and with the switch to MLAA, they were able to push much more on-screen.

Killzone 3 is the only game truly comparable to Crysis 2. God of War III and Uncharted 2 are so different in just about every way, the comparison is practically apples-to-oranges.

I agree that Killzone3 was much sharper than KZ2 beacuse KZ2 used QAA. Personlly I really hate QAA, 2XAA is much better than that.

Uncharted 2 looks better than both Crysis 2 and Killzone3 IMO. Just Crysis 2(xbox360 ver) is technically better graphics than Killzone3 IMO. Killzone 3 appears to be more  artistic. They both looks amazing.
