Forums - General Discussion - Is there no decency left at all ?

There are 120 millions of japanese struggling through an earthquake , a tsunami and what looks to be like a very bad nuclear incident and all I see the western ( american or european) journalists talk about is whether potential  harmfull radiations will reach California or France.

Don't they realize that for that level of radiation to cross the ocean the whole japan island would have to be fried and become an irradiated wasteland ???

For god sake, stop looking at your navel.....

You'll get10 times  more radiation sitting in California from doing a catscan than you will ever get from potential radiations clouds coming from Japan..........

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

I dunno the Canadian media hasn't really been talking about radiation coming over the ocean. Though they did report people are panicking and buying Iodine pills, though our Government has stated that it will not be an issue. Seriously you heard about a news outlet thinking Radiation could reach France lol that would mean it would have to contaminate all of Asia or NA , then all of Europe essentially what about the rest of the world that would be screwed.

On my national news outlet they were reporting that the radiation would effect up to 100km or more directly. They said the Japanese Government has only evacuated 10km and was in the process of evacuating 60KM. Our Government nuclear specialists think up to 100KM will be very much effected.

Also the meltdown is pretty much guaranteed as the staff supposed to be cooling the reactor were evacuated. The Nuclear specialist said the plant will melt down within 48 hours. This is going to be a very sad day for Japan. As for it reaching NA or France , very unlikely.

Nobody that far away should be worried. We should be trying to think of ways to help Japan cool those reactors within the next 48-hours!

I think they're worried because last time a meltdown has happened on a grand scale(Chernobyl) it has irridiated half of Europe, and even to the present day parts Eastern coast of England cannot be used for farming. Not that I condone their selfish actions, panic is understandable when there is a chance of fallout that could cause both the pollution in the atmosphere and possible contamination of US/Asia. What I don't see is why the hell Europe is pissing itself.

Journalists are douchebags that get paid for selling the story, right now you seem to not be buying it. Just ignore them, after all only the most fickle listen and believe the 100% of the shit that media spews. Although it'd be nice of them to cover the disaster and relief efforts all the time rather than the situation at the plant.

To be honest , the Japan situation isn't what has me questioning decency.

Libya is, the protestors have been being slaughtered for a month now. The last protestor held city is under seige and Gaddafi says he will kill the rebelion. Rebel leaders predict up to 500K people could be killed as that is how many rebels their are.

Gaddafi has been killing hundreds by the day. But guess what the US who can stop the madness at any time. Wants to wait for the United Nations to give the approval. The whole Arab League has begged the US to intervene, British and US Forces are capable of placing a no-fly zone in right aways.

Now the issue goes before the UN and guess what China and Russia are opposing it. Further debate is to occur on Thursday and a possible dicision could be a week or two away. In the meantime Gaddafi's troops are attacking and say they will take Benghazi in a few days.

By the time the UN orders a no-fly zone the war will be over and thousands of innocent civilians will be dead. This reminds me of Rwanda, Canada kept its troops in Rwanda while the rest of the world just ditched them and sat by to watch the genocide. Then after the genocide the UN goes back and pretends to have tried to stop it.

Obama all those killed in Libya, died because of you. Their blood is on your hands. You could have done something to stop the genocide but you just sat by and let it happen. Infact shame on China and Russia too.

Don't any countries stand for justice and democracy anymore. Or are the US and her allies and the majority of the UN a bunch of cowards, according to the Bible if you could prevent something but do not due so, you are as guilty as those carrying out the crime. So Obama is no less guilty of Gaddafi's murders then Gaddafi himself.

At any time the US could step in and save countless lives, but they choose instead to watch as acts of genocide are carried out. The US knew Russia and China would allow acts of genocide and stop their no-fly zone. Yet they insisted on waiting for the UN to issue the order, one they knew would not happen.

I think the reason they chose to stand by while countless people suffered was because the intervention of the West does not always yield the best of results, Saddam being the prime example of that. Although I agree that a No Fly zone should have been implemented a while back, right now on a grand scheme of things it doesn't make any sense to implement it now. The "war" is pretty much at an end, expect mass graves, interrogrations and the norm that usually come out under the rule of a dictator. Situation could have been much better handled, rebels were just slaughtered, I wonder what that says about the people that are still loyal to Gaddafi, who are willing to bomb, torture, kill their own countrymen just to follow orders. You really think sending millitary intervention into Libya would have been the best of solutions for Obama? He would lose support rather quickly had that occurred and the "war" actually continued to rage for a long time afterwards, like in the case of Iraq and Afghanistan.

I think a no-Fly zone should have been issued last week when the rebels controlled like 75% of the country. Then The US and other countries should have talked to the United Nations about armed intervention. Possibly give the Rebels munitions and fuel.I agree a ground force should not be deployed but the UN and US should not have stood by and allowed Gaddafi to fly in mercenaries and weapons while bombing his fellow citizens.

With a no fly zone the rebels could have held their lines, the civil war could occur on a almost equal playing field neither the rebels nor Gaddafi could annihilate each other. This would inevitably led to a cease fire and diplomacy.

Same could have been said about Rwanda, what could have happened if the UN had stayed and protected the people? I'm not exactly sure what the outcome would have been. But at least the UN would stand for something. People look to the UN for help and they always chicken out and leave the civilians to pay the consequences.

Stories concerning a home nation will nigh on always take a higher presidence then the country of the problem. Our main stories are about the clean up, the nuclear plant and foreigners leaving Japan. Nothing really about the people other then the evacuation from the area. Which is a sad thing.

Not sure I've heard anyone here mention fears over radition reaching Europe though. That's a bit far fetched.

Can't farm in Eastern England becuase of Chernobyl fallout? Where did you hear that? That seems a bit far fetched as well.

Read it somewhere recently, not all of it but apparently there are patches which are not suitable for farming as a result of the fallout.

The degree of radiation in Japan itself has been less significant than these people blathering on about "suicide missions" and "50 mile evacuation zones," are trying to cultivate, and these reports of a "plume" over Alaska and California? Yes. You get worse from an X-Ray

That's not the right question, the right question is does the news have any decency left at all?

The answer is no.

They spout off stupid headlines and leadines during commercials to get people to watch and then talk about scary things like radiation to get people scared and watch more.  There's a reason I haven't watched a local news program in 15-ish years.
