Forums - Gaming Discussion - Ubisoft announces Rocksmith, a rhythm game that uses real guitars

Ubisoft has announced an upcoming rhythm title from a totally new IP, called Rocksmith . The game lets players strum through tunes by artists such as, David Bowie, Interpol, and The Rolling Stones using any real electric guitar they may have sitting around the house with a quarter-inch input jack.

I'm a guitar player myself and I'm all over this idea. I guess it will be hard for Ubisoft to market this, but if it's done well this could really cater to musicians that want an easy way of practicing songs and jam with friends online.

Can't wait!

Finally a rhythm game that deserves my interest?! Unheard of!

Being a guitar player as well, I'll be looking out for it ;)

Umm, you guys do realise that Rock Band 3 has been out for months right?

I can't plug in my OWN guitar in RockBand 3. That's a massive difference if you want to cater for musicians.

Good point. I'll shut up now.

The guitar mode in Rock Band 3 is less than ideal.  The Mustang is not a good choice for any self-respecting guitarist.  The Squier has also been somewhat of a letdown-- I've been reading the Rockband forums and there have been many disappointed users.

Using your own guitar is huge.  Also, the software/teaching interface in Rocksmith looks topnotch.  I'm definitely going to get.

Ok, this trailer has me convinced that this will be a real music experience. There's so much opportunity in a game like this, I hope Ubisoft is serious about it.

ithought this bad genre would die with  guitar hero

The only problem I forsee with this game is the pitch detection.  I believe this software is based of of the Guitar Rising game that was never made-- it was always delayed because of problems recognizing pitch.  Gamers will problably have to continually tune their guitars so that they are recognized.  A nice touch would be a in-game tuner.

I've been looking more and more at the You Rock Guitar lately to use with Rock Band 3 and possible this Rocksmith game as well.  The You Rock might be more fun for a video game because it doesn't have to be tuned and the pitch recognition would be better. I have an acoustic and an electric guitar, but the You Rock still looks like it might work with a video game better.

You don't really seem to get the idea behind this. It's more a guitar playing sim than a Guitar Hero type rythm game.
