Forums - Sales Discussion - Alan Wake has hit 1 million sales

History does not record piracy figures.

Good to see it do 1m but is has been in the bargain bin for a while, I know because  I was looking to get it for someone (but afterwards  thought it might be a bit too "grown up"for them). Back then a brand new copy at Amazon was for less than £10.00.

Selling it at such a low price (and I don't think it was that long after release) isn't good for the developers and from what I have seen of it, they deserved a decent financial reward for their work.

I hope at the very least the developers broke even.

Y'know that pubs cover the cost of the game especially a pub like MS and pay the developer. So Remedy has already made out fine.

Microsoft is still footing the bill though :3

Sig thanks to Saber! :D

Took it long enough...

Good to see it achieving these numbers. It came with my new 360 Holiday bundle (yeah, download code...), and I really enjoyed it, I still have to beat it, though.

That's right, just one "d"

Heavy Rain sold a million in about 4 months with even less marketing than Wake.....sorry ...but wake is a FLOP

Alan Wake had less marketing and not only that it was also one of 2010's most pirated games so cut the crap.

1 Dante’s Inferno (1,280,000) (Feb. 2010)
2 Alan Wake (1,140,000) (May. 2010)
3 Red Dead Redemption (1.060,000) (May. 2010)
4 Halo Reach (990,000) (Sept. 2010)
5 Call of Duty: Black Ops (930,000) (Nov. 2010)

You making excuses for the game doesn't make it any less of a flop in comparison. It's sad what happened to Alan Wake, but the faults mostly fall onto the shoulders of the developer and the publisher and those faults shouldn't be used as excuses.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Fingers crossed for #2, first was pretty awesome. Although the gameplay mechanics got a bit annoying by the end I thoroughly enjoyed the story.

OLD GODS OF ASGARD RULE!@@!@!@!

Old gods of asgard rocked . The part with the stage and getting drunk listening to the album was great. It was a  great game and I felt like I was reading a book. The story was in depth and one of the best stories in a game that kept me at the edge of my seat.

Good to see AW cross the 1 million non-bundled mark. Add to that the 1 million dlc tokens  included in the holiday bundle in the US (check Forza 3 US holiday numbers which were counted) and it's done pretty well after a slow start.

Definitely hope they make a sequel to AW!

Don't really care if it was a flop or not...it was a good game.  Probably my favorite 360 exclusive outside of the Mass Effect series.  Great story-telling and atmosphere.  DLC was great too.  Hope a sequel happens.

That's one of the most ridiculous things you can say if you think it's a good game. If this good game you enjoyed doesn't get enough sales, it won't get a sequel. You want it to NOT be a flop if you like the game. Sales matter.

All gaming systems, consoles/PC, have thier perks... why fight over preferences? I like Coke and you like Pepsi, that's it, let's not fight over which toy we like best cause that's what they are. Is someone's preference in a toy important or is the relationship between you and your neighbor more important? Answer is obvious, but THE most important thing is your relationship with God almighty. God Bless you in Jesus's name.

I can communicate without talking... I can send a loved one money without actually sending money... and I can commit theft without the product disappearing, the point of theft is the point of theft not one of it's possible symptoms which is the product dissappearing. The thief wants to gain something without paying for it, that's the point of theft, the thief doesn't have to care or anybody else has to care if the product dissappears. The product dissappearing is just a possible symptom of theft. Gifts are sacrfices, in order to give a gift, it has to be a genuine sacrfice/gift, meaning a copy of the game isn't still in your PC. Piracy is theft and/or being a culprit of theft.

Definitely a flop. 5 years of development time from a studio whose past outtings comfortably sold millions.

It had so many problems though. People expected an AAA rating, then it wasn't recieved as well as expected. Marketing was nearly non-existant and it's launch was at a terrible time.

A shame for sure, at least it's gotten to a million, but at a bargain bin price. A sequel is almost guaranteed, Remedy need cash flow and after spending 5 years tinkering with an engine, they could produce a better sequel by 2012.

SO IS THE GAME REALLY AT 2 MILLION ALL TOGETHER?

So what exactly does this have to do with Alan Wake / thread?
