Flop or not, it got the job done for those of us who truly wanted it! Yes, 1 million retail (1 million downloaded) is enough to warrant a sequel and maybe next time around, Microsoft will just handle the marketing a little better.

Try to remember this is a horror title, and outside of RE & Dead Space, very few horror franchises have done anything. Wake is one of those games on any platform that deserved so much more from all angles, and a sequel might just be what kick starts this franchise into high gear!

It's not a horror game.

Anyways good to hear it sold that well and like a previous poster said it's probably over 2 million if you count the bundled downloadable codes. Didn't Forza 3 sell almost 1 million more because of those bundles. Good to hear it's a great game.

It's definitely a horror game.

Congrats Alan Wake. Here is to hope for a sequel.

Its important that 360 owners buy games like this.

The game should have sold 4million. Excellent game.

Really great game.

I think this game would sell better as a ps3 exclusive.

And i think killzone 3 would do better as a 360 exclusive..go figure.

the problem is that sales numbers don't mean much if a lot of the copies were aquired through the bargain bin.

i really feel for remedy, they said they were "betting the farm" on this game. they put all they had in the development.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

game was alright and I don't think it was that expensive to make.. besides isn't remedy only made up of 50 staff ?  not like MASS EFFECT with over 200 people working on it.

well deserved. I still need to get somewhere in my collectors edition though haha

of course it is a flop, otherwise the developers wouldn't be in finacial trouble at the moment.

They are? Have you got a source? It wouldn't surprise me at all!

Lets be honest here, Alan Wake was a huge flop saleswise. A great game but one that disappointed in reviews and sales.

It's still a sales flop in my eyes. Weren't they working on the game for like five years?

Now before you jump on me for calling a game that sells one million copies a flop, I'd like to remind you that I consider Super Mario Galaxy a flop as well.

I don't think it was a sales flop in that I don't believe the audience for something like Alan Wake was ever that large, but I do consider it an example of poorly executed development, with way to many major changes of course and too much effort wasted on platforms that ultimately weren't even supported.

A title like Alan Wake requires focused, tightly controlled development, and Remedy really bounced all over the place with what was always going to be a comparatively niche title by genre and eventual exclusive console.

Even with 1 million sales a lot of those were likly well below launch price, underscoring the small market for the title at launch at the current regular price point for a full game.

So I say sales flop no  Development cycle and cost management - huge flop.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Fingers crossed for #2, first was pretty awesome. Although the gameplay mechanics got a bit annoying by the end I thoroughly enjoyed the story.
