Forums - Gaming Discussion - EA bans player from Dragon Age 2 singleplayer because of forum post

"" RogueyWon writes "Kotaku is reporting that a Dragon Age II gamer banned from BioWare's forums for an allegedly inflammatory post has been locked out of the (singleplayer only) game for the duration of the ban. This is a consequence of EA's backend systems, which link forum accounts to the accounts that players use to access their games. This would appear to be a worrying new development; while trolling forums has led to bans from massively multiplayer games in the past (arguably with some justification), the extension of the principle to singleplayer games, where an abusive player cannot affect the enjoyment of others, must surely be a step too far." ""

Why do game companies do things to make me hate them? I keep boycotting companies and I miss out on great games........and I am really close to giving up on EA.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Every article I read like this makes me feel like we're losing our rights by the day.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

WTF? That's just stupid.

What did he say to get the ban?

That EA was the devil

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

so how does EA manage to magically download something on to someones system to stop them from playing the game?

the game doesnt need to be connected to the internet.  so, even if the connection of the accounts and that causing a potentional issue is true... being offline means the system cant communicate information like that.

He'd bought the game from the EA store, and you have to sign into your account to activate it. As his account was suspended, he couldn't do so, so was effectively banned from his purchase due to the forum ban. EA have now lifted the ban, so he can play his game.

You might want to have a look at this.

I imagine EA had to do this because I'm pretty sure if the gamer sued EA he'd win. He might not win much, but he'd win and make EA look like total arseholes. No, wait, they already look like total arseholes. He'd subject them to a major public humiliation. At least this way the embarassment is limited only to gamers who hang out online.

Makes you wonder what would have happened if there hadn't been such a big fuss. EA really need to separate their online forum registrations from their in game accounts, like Valve does with Steam.
