Bioware jumping on the console casual train, I see.

Someone never played Mass Effect 2. That same game also proves that having a console as the prime focus for an RPG can still result in a fantastic game.

the demo was offputting.

I loved mass effect 2 by the way... that or baulders gate 2 is my favorite by them... so it's not as though, I think all their games need the same elements.

But, the demo felt like the wrong direction for this franchise imo. And reviews kinda confirm that. I'll play it when it gets  cheaper for PC. Maybe.

Like many have pointed out;

"Multiple elements have been inexplicably simplified over the original  " That sentence there sums up my feelings about this game and the overall direction RPG's are taking. Bioware are taking a step off the cliff and plummeting into obscurity and nonsense, slowly but certainly. I can't believe that these games we're seeing from them now are from the same company that brought us such incredible games in the past. In a few years, no one will buy RPG's simply because they'll be too shallow for RPG fans to enjoy and still a tad too complex for casuals to play.

RIP Bioware.

Next up, more RPG franchises will follow, I'm just waiting for Final Fantasy to become simple enough for a 5 year old to play (oh wait, that already happened...).

Dragon Age 2 has a metacritic score of 84 and a game rankings score of 83 (I looked at 360 scores).

IF this was school, this is a "B" student, if this were a job performance evaluation, this employee gets their yearly bonus...and yet you would think by the comments here, that this game is in the running for worst game of the year.

HAHA, reading comments like these make me glad I don't live in the same gaming world as some of you folks do!  No offense, but I have no need for an "elitist" or "hardcore" attitude.  I'll buy and play Dragon Age II and it will succeed or fail in my mind based upon my experience with it, not because some dude thought it was "dumbed down for the casual audience".

You know, some people actually read the text rather than looking at the final score... it's a lot more informative.

And what makes you think I didn't?  Just because I came away with a different conclusion then you?

I've read multiple reviews, including IGN (85) and this Gamespot (80), and NEITHER the score nor the text is representative of a BAD game.  Do you refute that?

Let's wait for Final Fantasy Versus XIII!

If you paid attention to the reviews you would knew that 8 for a big title from legendary studio with shitload of cash for marketing is equvalent of 6 or 7 for a game from small uknown publisher.

PROUD MEMBER OF THE PSP RPG FAN CLUB

I'm having a hard time comprehending why most of you were put off by the demo. I never played DA: O and there was no demo for it, but I immediately loved the demo for DA2. So much so that I'm now going to buy the Ultimate Edition of DA: O for the PS3 and then DA2.

Ah well, to each his own.

Why the fuck is the spiritual successor of Baldur's Gate being casualled down? Why are BioWare becoming shit at RPG's?

First we have Mass Effect 2 dropping a whole bunch of RPG elements and now Dragon Age follows...

Annoyed.

I've played Mass Effect 2 and I totally agree with huaxiong90.

Mass Effect 2 is a great game. Yeah. But it's a worse RPG than the original Mass Effect. The RPG elements of the game have been dumbed down trememdously. It's more TPS than it is RPG really.

I have a feeling Bioware would have been better off not mentioning Baldur's Gate at all. It attracts a crowd that wants that type of game and that is not the type of game Bioware is going to make anymore.

They say all the time that they want narrative driven or story driven games. Basically not RPGs in the classic sense. This really screws with peoples expectations.
