Against The Grain: Wii2 at this years E3???

Hell yeah! Bout time! 72 36.92%

No way man. Nintendo's too core for that 73 37.44%

They'll announce it but there's no need 24 12.31%

It'll be announced BEFORE E3!! OMFG!!! 5 2.56%

...it's Nintendo, kiddy...who cares? 21 10.77%

So, I was just checking Google News and what do I find?

http://www.t3.com/news/nintendo-wii-2-to-be-unveiled-this-june-at-e3?=54151

http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/38938/nintendo-wii-2-launch-e3

And literally dozens more pages like that in the past 12 hours. But why? Why now?

It would seem as though it all stems from a simple quote last year, which, to me, means absolutely nothing revelant to it:

quoting CEO Satoru Iwata's comments at a Japanese investor Q&A session last year: "We are of course studying and developing the next console to Wii. However, there is a big difference between studying a product and announcing what it is and when we will release it."

Many people see E3 as this time, and rightly so! But, will it happen? If it does, will it be surprising?

Will it FINALLY silence critics? Doubtful...

But what do you reckon? Will it be announced at E3? SHOULD it be announced at E3? When will it release??? Is Skyward Sword more important????

I'm in no rush for a Wii2, but I'd like to know its coming. The Wii isn't d00med (more about that next week), but it IS slowing down.

So, my question, once again, is this. IF you were Nintendo, when would you announce Wii2?

This year's E3 seems to be a good time to announce the Wii successor and set the launch window for spring 2012 (no full unveiling though, just the first details). Skyward Sword and the DS will be minor parts of Nintendo's conference, the 3DS and its games will get most of the attention.

Pretty much what I expect.

Not that it's a bad thing mind

Nah, I think the best time to launch it would be 2013. I doubt that Nintendo, or anybody would launch a brand new console wih no full unveiling at all. Your plan sounds good, just with the full unveiling at E3 2012, and a launch in 2013.

Early 2013 or late 2012 would be just right i think, it's all about 3DS now this E3 and a few Wii games to show, We may hear hints at GDC 2012 or any fall conference this year if there's any.

Buying in 2015: Captain toad: treasure tracker,

mario maker

new 3ds

yoshi woolly world

zelda U

majora's mask 3d

No chance, it'll be announced 2012 at the earliest and it won't end up on shelves for another 2 years after that. We won't see the Wii 2 on shelves until 2014/2015 at the earliest.

It won't be announced this year - makes no sense to do so

It's about DAMN TIME. I want a Nintendo console that is HD compatible and that has an improved online infrastructure.

I concur and would add that I don't think it'll do a damn to silence critics as it'll be just as revolutionary as DS and Wii and will have gamers scratching their heads about it just the same as they did when DS's 2nd touch screen or Wii's motion control was announced.   They won't get it.  It won't matter.

 E3 2011 : We may get a vague announcement

Late 2011 : Rumours. Maybe we will start hearing about dev kits.

Early 2012 : More information on the console

 E3 2012 : Full unveiling

Late 2012 : Console launches

Nintendo has more reasons to launch early unlike MS and Sony who would benefit from dragging on the generation longer.

Anyone who thinks Nintendo will carry on with only the Wii to 2014/15 ^ is nuts. Sony and MS will probably come out 2013/14 maybe even 2015. Though once Nintendo launches, they will not just want to sit back.

Guys, the last Nintendo home console that did not launch in the fall period in North America (September-December) was the freaking SNES.

I don't see why you guys are thinking that Nintendo would launch a home console nowadays during ANY period other than fall. It's coming out Fall 2012, or Fall 2013. Period.
