Forums - Gaming Discussion - Has anyone who was a fanboy grown out of it?

Given that i got on board with Nintendo in the late N64 era and hit my stride in the GameCube era (the low point of Nintnedo's output and industry prestige), it's fairly certain to say that if i didn't buy other systems then, i won't now or at all in the foreseeable future, but i'm much more open-minded on other consoles now than i used to be (i'm quite angry at Sony right now, but that's over all of their highly illegal GeoHotz shenanigans, and not related to their output. Hell, if i were forced to buy another current-gen dedicated gaming platform, first stop would be PSP)

The only thing that raises my fanboy ire is Nintendo hate, which puts me in a reactionary mood that inflames my fanboysim overall

I think I have actually. I would probably still call myself a Sony fanboy (or at least loyal fan) but I've really toned down the 360 hate since the start of this generation. I honestly don't know why I still prefer PS3 over 360 when the truth is I've played way more 360 this generation than PS3, but whatever.

I don't think I'll ever not hate on Nintendo, at least not until they make an awesome console that is on par with its competitors (technology wise), has good 3rd party support, all the usual nintendo franchises, and some damn new franchises. Miyamoto hasn't made any good new series since Pikmin on the Gamecube (wii sports is alright but not on par with Miyamoto's usual work).

I'm a gaming fanboy.

Just curious.  Anyone who has hated a company every grown out of it?

To get things straight -

Fan = someone who really likes a company and praises it.

Fanboy = while liking a company, you also spend time hating another company and take good news from your non preferred company as a threat.

For me, there was a time when I really didn't like the Xbox.  I don't like console shooters at all, except a few.  I also don't really care for online multiplayer as I frankly don't like people online - as in I like to keep the racism and homphobia out of my gaming experience.

Then I decided, I would be missing out on games like Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Tales of Vesperia (English version), and Alan Wake.

Can some of you put away ill feelings toward a console manufacturer to play the games you want?  In the grand scheme of things, they are pretty small investments compared to bills, house / apartment, cars, girlfriends (I went there), etc.

I'm a fan and not a fanboy then, I will never spend time looking for infos on a console that I don't like or hate (there are no such a console in my mind) I on the other hand like my PS3 and hate when people talk shit about it when it's groundless. So these people call me fanboy, and I find it quite cute. :)

I use to bash Sony, and show ms love. I have changed.

3DO will have a special place in my heart though since it was the first console I ever played. Still have it to this day and it still works. Only game I have for it is the original Need For Speed.

Some of you people are or were really, really close-minded. I hope you are ashamed of yourself.

I'm waiting for your apology.

I will admit to being a sony fanboy early on this gen, so much so that I sold my xbox 360 just to purchase games for my ps3 in march 07 (when there were none).  That was pretty damn foolish of me looking back, I finally pulled my head out of my ass about 2 years ago and realized that every system with great games deserves a place in my entertainment setup.  Best decision Ive ever made as far as gaming is concerned, being a multi console owner means I never have to miss out on anything.  It also helped me learn much more about the industry and taught me to heavily research my purchasing interests before investing in a 60 dollar game or a certain accessory, which I now apply to everything instead of being that blind consumer who walks into a best buy and asks which tv they should get.  I will never be that person again and I have my fanboyism to thank for that.  Before this gen, I never frequented sites like this, so I had no idea about upcoming titles, trends, big news or anything like that.  Now I do this daily, and absolutely love it.  Gettin a little OT though but I will say im glad to be as open minded as I am now, and although I still prefer my ps3 its not because I suck sony off every chance I get, I just enjoy the trophy system a bit more.

Um, I do not care for anything Nintendo does or releases, except for a select few games. But I don't bash them.

I used to troll everything. Now, I just don't care.
