Forums - Sales Discussion - Did you miss the sales news?

Since the last fiscal reports were released....

-Nintendo's Game Boy was the most sold video game system of all-time...

... until Son'y Playstation 2 passed this mark and achieved the all-time leader of any system, within the past months (subject to sales vs. shipping data)

- Nintendo's NES (Nintendo Entertainment System)  held a considerable sales mark of nearly 62 million consoles.  Only five other consoles have sold more than 61 million units to date (PS1, PS2, NES, GB, GBA)...

... until the unofficial surpassing of the NES by the Nintendo DS.  Last weeks numbers have DS sales at 61 million and a quarter.  At this point, today, or yesterday or tomorrow, the unofficial passing of sales records by the NES has been surpassed by the Nintendo DS's life-time sales.  In unofficial order, descending, the all-time sellers are now: PS2, GB, PS1, GBA, DS, NES.

Numbers: Checker Players > Halo Players

Checkers Age and replayability > Halo Age and replayability

Therefore, Checkers > Halo

So, Checkers is a better game than Halo.

By the way, these numbers are all according to VGChartz's sales data tables.

Hey ioi, when are you going to add Sept. 2007 to that comparison chart???

Those figures are slightly misleading as the figures for Gameboy actually include sales of the Gameboy Color, which is a completely different machine.
I think sales of the original Gameboy are around 70m+, so PS1 & 2 are both way ahead. The Wii & DS may change that though.

I expect the psp to pass the 61M mark in 2009.

PSP will be dead in 2009...
Who is gonna make games for it?
When they know it is gonna sell like crap...

Not really.  The same can be said about the PS2 and DS.

The real issue is whether or not the same games can be played on the system or not.  The GBA is separated from the GB because GBA games are actually much different, and not interchangable.  The distinction betweengameplay between the GB and GBC is so small, the same as the several PS2 versions, you can asterisk the data, but in the end, sales are sales.

You can asterisk a lot of debatable facts.  I always asterisk PS2 because of hardware malfunctions and owning more than one copy...  It is rare for ANY stsem these days to not be subject to an asterisk.

One of the biggest concepts modern day society uses so profoundly and unintelligently is that ME = WE.  Similarly, if a country somewhere in the world hates Bush, and believes Bush is just acting the way the people of the US want, and hate the people of the US, it is the same thing.

Generalizing a viewpoint or statement based on what YOU as an individual believe is no right to state that WE believe or know anything at all.
