Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Weird...I thought MSFT wasn't competing with Nintendo...

Nor does he take into fact that most of the 3rd party games have been shit. Or if the good ones were made they weren't marketed like a good game such as Zack and Wiki. So far it has been the 3rd party's fault for why most of their games have not done well.

Looks like they are competing, once Wii's run short that is. They are about to take Sony's spot at the bottom of the ladder I think, PR wise.

Yeah that's pretty stupid reality-wise, but expected from a competing company. It's not self-defeating though, which prevents it from beating the stupidity of Sony's executives when they open their mouths.

Where's Dodece to put some more FUD spin on this?

You be quiet. I am not in the mood to read a 12 paragraph post telling me that only Wii Sports and Wii Play sell on the Wii.

While it is funny to see companies predict Nintendo's demise, it's pretty silly on the whole. I don't think there's ever been a more cautious developer in the history of video game comsoles than Nintendo; tha'ts a big part of why they're still around while companies like Atari and Sega have bowed out of hardware. Sure, they get gripe like this when they make an over-conservative guess like they did on the Wii's popularity, but at least their comparative snoozer consoles like the GameCube don't near-bankrupt them the way systems like the Saturn and Jaguar sank their respective manufactuers.

Actually, the only expected standard issued FUD usually comes from Sony. This is a far cry from their resent press releases.

They've done it towards Nintendo many times in the past.

I remember even Bill Gates did it in an interview where he laughed at the Wii's controller and I believe it was Peter Moore who said, "We look forward to Shigeru Miyamoto working for us someday soon."

They've done this for a long time. It's the type of passive-aggressiveness which I despise. Rather than coming right out and making a statement against Nintendo, they kind of insinuate it without saying anything substantial.

The idea isn't to give Nintendo fans something to argue. The idea is to quietly raise fear, uncertainty and doubt about Nintendo and their products. It's the business equivalent of starting rumors about other students in high school.

I'm not arguing that Sony does it as well, but MS is no stranger to the act.

Microsoft use to do it a lot especially before the Wii came out. It seems to have cooled with the Wioi being the market leader. You look a bit follish when yopu say a Nintendo employee will one day work for you and are being beat by said company.

Nintendo is usually good at not doing this. They do it on a much rarer occasion. Sony (and especially Microsoft) do it a bunch. It may have cooled down as the consoles are out and these silly things are no longer needed.

I think the DS's 3rd party sales cancel out all of the Wii's misgivings, sales-wise. Besides, it comes down to: make a game as good as Nintendo does, and it will sell!

Is he really saying MS doesnt go all out to make a game the best it can be, so that 3rd party games will look better in comparison on their system? They instead pour the money saved into advertising.

Maybe that is why Halo isn't up for (or at least won't get) the GOTY award. But still sold okay anyways. ;)

Torturing the numbers.  Hear them scream.
