Forums - Gaming Discussion - Who was your first celebrity developer?

Andrew Braybrook or Jeff Minter, I'm not really sure of the cronological order. i suppose these names mean very little to most readers, though...

Someone from Bullfrog... Don't remember his name. It was my first game (Flood on Amiga 500) which was the first game he designed. I loved it then.

John Carmack & John Romero... They were celebrity developers and acted like hollywood celebrities... Every gaming magazine i bought in the 90s had something about them like a tabloid...

I began to learn about devs and designers like Miyamoto, Kojima, Sakaguchi, etc. because of them...

Kevin Toms - Football Manager.

Thats right kids we had to load the game from a cassette tape.

It took 5 mins to load and was written in BASIC.

It was also one of the best games I owned.

Kevin Toms has coded it himself and had his picture in the top corner of the inlay card.

Basically a smiling fat bloke with a beard.

My memory is vague on the subject.

I'm guessing it was Miyamoto, since I'm pretty sure Nintendo Power used to mention him but I don't think I paid that much attention to it at that time.

The first one I paid attention to was Kojima because of his name popping up while fighting Psycho Mantis. I remember wandering who or what Hideo was. With a bit of research I found out he was the guy behind this wonderful game called Metal Gear Solid.

Probably John Carmack and John Romero.

It was Romero for me. I even wrote an essay about his life iin school.

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Molyneaux for B&W2, i did not know he was also involved with Fable so when I found out I already knew him from back in the day..

But before that It was Kojima from MGS but i did not care for developers back then.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

It was Miyamoto. I was pretty oblivious to who it was that was making the games I was playing in the early part of my life (outside of obviously seeing Nintendo or Sega or whatever flash up at the start of games), and then in the mid 90s I started getting a Nintendo magazine here in the UK, and they had a feature on Miyamoto and all the things he'd done, and that's when I found out he was responsible for most of the games I loved.

The same magazine also put me onto Rare and the Stamper brothers.
