Forums - Sales Discussion - Sony cuts price of Torne Bundle in Japan

PS3 is getting somewhat of an indirect price cut. Sony announced today that the system's "HDD Recorder Pack 320 GB" package will see a price cut from ¥39,980 to ¥35,980 starting tomorrow (March 1).

The HDD Recorder Pack includes the following items: a PS3 with 320 gigabyte hard drive, a Torne DVR recorder device, a Dual Shock 3, and power, AV and USB cables. The bundle was first released on November 18, 2010.

Joining the original HDD Recorder Pack, which includes a charcoal black PS3 system, Sony will also be releasing a version with a Classic White system. This will be released on March 10, priced ¥35,980 as well. Like the charcoal black device, Sony lists the classic white version as being set for limited quantity release.

All this activity is part of a new campaign called "Imada! PS3 Campaign" (roughly, "Now! PS3 Campaign." From March 10 through April 17, those who buy a PS3 system will be entered into a drawing to win one of 10,000 Blu-ray movie disks. Winners will be able to select from 20 movies.

Searched and didn't see any thread about this. More fuel for the price cut speculation fire.

And it doesn't look like they're just clearing out old stock, given they're planning to release a new White PS3 bundle for that price next month.

From what I understand, the Torne SKU is actually pretty popular, which is why the PS3 generally enjoys pretty nice sales even when it has no software anywhere close to the top 10.  It'll be interesting to see what impact this has on weekly sales.

I wonder if we'll see price cuts on the regular SKU at any point soon.

Not to mention the new silver model as well. Combined with that PS3 looks to be having a pretty nice few weeks or months in Japan. I think a price cut to the base SKU is just a matter of time at this point. Although I think in Japan they'll wait until after Golden week at least.

I wish the U.S. would get the silver PS3.... I would be upgrading fast.... I still have my silver ps2, i love the way it looks.... well see what happens i guess :D

It'd be nice to get an update on Torne sales.  Last we heard it had done 420k between april and september plus whatever it had done in March.

I wish they would release something like that her int he States, but I'm guessing that getting through all the copyright red tape here would be a nightmare.

All pricing bets are off until the LG issue is settled. If Sony has to back pay a shitload of royalties, and ongoing royalties too you can forget a price cut until at least 2012.

That Torne bundle cut is what, $40?

Yes but stand alone PS3 is 30k so the torne bundle is just 6k more now.
