Forums - Sony Discussion - LG gets injunction against PS3 sales in Europe!?

So the Blu Ray debacle continues. This is going to hurt either directly through sales or via payments either way its going to hurt. The fact they got the injunction in the first place does not bode well for Sony. I guess they will just up the ante on the patent wars.

Gee whiz, a mega corporation breaks the law. That's never happened before.

It will be interesting to see how it ends up. If Sony's cases against LG in other patent areas is equally strong then they might just decide to call it even. Interesting that LG waited until PS3 was actually doing well. If LG had acted too early they would have shot themselves in the foot with Blu-ray, because PS3 success means Blu-ray success. Arguably having PS3 do well is good for LG even if LG doesn't see a cent from PS3 sales. Had PS3 failed and exited the market before Blu-ray defeated HD-DVD then HD-DVD could have won the format war and all of LG's Blu-ray patents would have been worth less than toilet paper.

It's fun to watch the games corporations play.

So why do you feel  you have to reply...? He is obviously a "troll" (or just messing around) baiting for trolls, and whoever takes the bait is a...

OT:

Why did it take such a long time for LG to figure out that the PS3s infringe on their patents? Pretty silly if you ask me. Hope this will not be a long lasting issue for Sony.

It's generally accepted that it is simply a retaliation for Sony suing LG on some mobile phone patent(s).

So now LG is the shite because they retaliate when Sony attacks first. Good to know.

Its is...   I just wish people would understand that they ALL do it. (except maybe Ninty..  too cuddlyand nice  for their own good)

I still think this will be sorted by the weekend btw.

And what's worse, megacorps always do it and almost always settle through cross-licensing or deals covered by NDAs, this is made to build a litigation system that helps excluding smaller enterprises from the deals, as except patent trolls (*), that make a living by suing everybody, small and midsize companies actually designing and producing real stuff haven't comparable patents portfolios and bargaining power and get more easily crushed by the system if they happen to clash with the bigs.

(*) Edit: BTW patent trolls are actually a side-effect, they found how to exploit bad laws and patent rules made mainly for the biggest companies' interests, but the overall system is made to make the big win against the little even when the little is right.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
