I think in late 2009 duct tape will catch masking tape in worldwide sales.  Scotch tape is selling out everywhere as people use it to wrap presents.  It is rumored that they ramped up scotch tape production to almost 18 million roles per month, but that still isn't keeping up with demand.  Home Depot will allow you to preorder more scotch tape on Dec 21 for pick up on Jan 25th.  By that time, why would you need it?

Given that Nintendo needs loads of duct tape to join two gamecubes together to make a Wii I think the sales of duct tape are rather low. Or is Nintendo using an alternative adhesive device?

I think Nintendo's holding back the supply of duct tape to slow down Wii production to artificially inflate demand to look good for the holidays.
