It wasn't so much that.  They completely changed the economy system from a unique system a based on rate of output in Supreme Commander, to a more traditional system based on total output in Supreme Commander 2.

They abandoned the most unique and arguably greatest feature of the game in favor of stuff we've been seeing for over 20 years.  They claimed they were making it more "accessible", but their sales only suffered as a result of the change.

A mate of mine was addicted to the original... was it that good? He got the collectors edition, for him that is unbelievably rare

Yeah, it was awesome.  Between the scale and econ system, I was addicted from the beta until well after release.

I didn't realize there was a collector's edition, but if I had, I totally would've gotten it!

supposedly that was always the plan ...for Gas to take over the game...because Robot wishes to work on their own original titles.

What a mess. Age of Empires is truly dead. Not that I was excited the least for this browser online cartoon game anyway.

OT: stupid of Robot entertainment to make a kiddy cartoon Warcraft style game instead of a serious historical RTS, which they probably would have got some talent left for.

I'll be interested in this. Rarely see RTS on consoles, so any will be sufficient to sate my hunger!

i was reading something earlier where they said they had 3 projects being worked on (which did not include aoeo)  so there is still some hope that they are making an rts, just not an aoe one.

Cool!

You can make a real good RTS even without AAA studio resources. You just need the will to make an Age of Empires type game.

Being such a tiny studio I have the fear their other 2 games could be browser games/social media games though...

I don't like what I see.

This is definitely not RTS, it doesn't even look like first person RTS (as in Pandemic's Battlezone). 
More like uninspired action game # 50 million and one.

This is no Dungeon Keeper clone either - sadly. I'd die for a good Dungeon Keeper clone done by experienced RTS developers.

Not interested in this one.
