radiant you are the perfect example of what a huge part of the divide between modern and old school games are. you put a lot of importance on the story, not that it is a bad thing, and that is what turns alot of gamers who prefer older games. i am with the older games crowd though. i understand what you're saying about not finishing games that are not story driven, but i dont agree with you. for me, game characters dont need a backstory to explain everything. the reason i play games is to play the game, which may sound stupid, but its true. i play rpgs to explore the battle system, see the world that is built, find hidden secrets and make the characters my own. i play platformers to explore the world, run around and experiment with the controls, and play in my own style. story is good, but games like zelda, mario, etc. convey more in the gameplay, which i think is what alot of people who like older games miss.
