Forums - Gaming Discussion - Hardcore Gaming is a plague that needs to be purged. Yes, I've gone crazy.

When I say hardcore gaming, I don't mean that hardcore gaming of yore.  I mean this generation's new toxic variety of hardcore gaming, I.E. the type of hardcore gaming that has spawned the fanboy culture in its current stat.  This generation is quite possibly the most laughable generation in recent memory.  Publishers and developers pratically plummet hardcore gamers in the ass and they take it with acceptance and more often than not take it with a smile on their face.

Games are more tedious and boring than ever.  The main reason for this is because developers think their Hollywood and that if their games don't sell, it's because customers are retarded and uncultured.  Sadly, terrible games in once respectable franchises are being made because Pre-Modonna developers don't want to make games that have content anymore.  It's far easier to make a shitty game with pretty graphics and artstyle and story than to make a good game that has content.  That's not to say that all games with content are inherently good and games with more in emphasis on graphics and such are inherently bad. Games with content take work though.  You can't make those types of games without alot of work put into them.  Well, stratch that, you could if you repackage the existing game with prettier graphics and a continued story and relatively tiny tweeks to serve as the dangling drumstick on the end of a treadmill the hardcore love running on.

Content should be king of this hobby.  It's the reason why games like Minecraft and Tetris sell so well.  They're given arbirtary constraints in the form of story or artstyle or graphics.  Multiple players play their own way, they play with no end in sight and they play without the promise of rewards like cutscenes and new bits of story.  Think about just any old game that's worth playing today.  Chances are they have content and we play them at our leisure.  Instead, games of today are completely and shelved for months and years at the time because these hardcore games aren't worth playing as their basically movies with tacked on gameplay.

Kinda irony that hardcore gamers harp praise to computer companies and their computers that just so happen to plug in their televisions while shunning those who actually understand true console gaming.  Given that the latter has acted more like a rockstar drunk on power and the former consists of a company that just wants to create a need(You need BING! You need Windows Phone! You need Kinect!) rather than creating a superior product and a company that's so far up its own ass, anything they say to the media has varying amounts of crap in it.

Yes, I just ripped Malstrom.

Congratulations, SmokedHostage, you are now one of those guys who has allowed his own gaming values to obviate the need for both reflection and tolerance.

He who stares into the abyss etc.

Thank you, Roland.  That's more or less what I was going for.

Edit: Also Roland is a pseudonym, because Roland is an incredibly cool name.

Japan is an aging oblivion of gaming as it stands.  They're headed by game gods that think they do whatever they want with relatively no opposition.  I really don't know what's more sad, when Japan copies the west in hopes of being relevant or when Japan spawns articous games and blame their customer base for their resulting failures.

Will you just say what you mean? My patience for this "hurr hurr I may or may not be trolling" shit is at critical levels, and the fact that you're acknowledging the close-minded nature of this topic only exacerbates this.

Please, for the love of God. Just, whatever you mean to communicate, just say it instead of talking out the side of your mouth.

When there are record breaking revenue streams and miniscule amounts of profits, when the big publishers with most revenue are putting their efforts on their established IP's and not on new projects, when the small publishers are pretty much scrapping the bottom of the barrel, there's something wrong.
