The Wii is even in trouble? First I heard of it.

No its not doing that well, but that doesn't mean its in trouble, the world isn't black and white, everything has a grey area.

Really now?

Pretty much, yeah.

Like he says, it would be in trouble if it was in its 3rd year and at around 25k a week. Now it's in its 5th year and only doing around 10-20k below the 360, which has re-designs, add-ons etc., and some weeks it's even ahead!

So it's not "in trouble", people are too quick to call d00m...

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Pachter has been predicting the Wii 2 for awhile, but, he seems more certain of it now since the THQ guy said that Nintendo could reveal new hardware sometime this year.

It's just that I remember so much doom calls for it that I find that hard to believe anymore.

Ah, and I'll be adding that to my siggy later on :P

That's quite alright, just mae sure you don't...remove anything to make way for it...

Wait, what? Oh right yeah

People have always wanted the Wii to fail due to its family-friendly orientation in its early years. Some people (myself included) felt that Nintendo had dropped the ball. No Zelda? No Metroid? No Pikmin? And what's Wii fit and Wii music??!!??

Fortunately, they're focusing more on the "core" crowd, and I shouldn't need to list a few must-have core Nintendo Wii exclusives here, but some people don't see that, so since there's a dip in sales, they say that the "blue ocean has dried up" and that the "Wii is d00med", for example.

When an important press spokesman (Patcher) sees this, he says it's time for a Wii 2, because he's been wrong for the past 6 years and if he keeps saying it it'll happen. Press pick this up, post articles of doom and hate, and then everyone believes it.

That's why it's difficult to ignore now. Not because it's true, but because everyone wants it to be true...

I could be wrong but I think the "trouble" the Wii is facing now has far more to do with price/value than it does with new technology ... The Wii has been on the market for almost 5 years and has only had one 20% price reduction, and the value of the system hasn't changed much. While it would be drastic, reducting the price of the Wii to $149, including an additional Wiimote and Nunchuck, and packing in a game that has already been amazingly profitable (Mario Kart) would result in a significant "recovery"; at least a long enough recovery for Nintendo to hold off releasing a new system for a full year.

It sounded cool at the end of a sentence and I always wanted to use that phrase!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Kinda funny that all the industry wants to focus on is Nintendo's sales falling from RECORD SALES a year ago, yet love to turn a blind eye to the fact that the PS3 is selling absolutely abysmally with no end in sight...because "it's our console".

Fuck Pachter.

Fuck most game journalists.

Fuck "hardcore gamers".

Fuck the industry.

I can't imagine Nintendo would announce the Wii's successor before cutting the price to at least $149.99. They would be leaving way too many sales on the table by making al potential buyers hold off for the next console that's "only a year away" which would wreck their 2011 sales. We'll hear a whisper maybe at the most get a name or a quick glimpse of the shell at E3.
