Forums - Sales Discussion - Will the PS3 pass XBOX 360 sales in 08?

As 2008 approaches, we saw a huge increase in Playstation 3 sales from a price drop and different PS3 packages. PS3’s WW sales figures are getting much closer to Microsofts and they actually passed MS figures narrowly last week. Over the last year, many ps3 fanboys stated that by the end of 2008, PS3 will have more worldwide sales than Microsoft will. Is that still the case? Will 2009 be the next target?

The PS3 won't pass the 360 until Final Fantasy XIII launches on the PS3. Before that, they will always be behind.

It won't even get close ...

In order for the PS3 to pass the 360 in 2008 it would have to average 613,000+ units more per month than the XBox 360 sells, being that neither system sells more than 613,000 units per month on average I think it is very unlikely that the PS3 will come close...

I agree but it will be close. In 2008 I truly believe the PS3 will be well into the double digits, most definitely with the help of GT5 (which WILL sell more than even FFXIII) and MGS4.

 



End of Year predictions:

Wii | 17.5 million ----> 19.20 million as of new year

X360 | 16 million ----> 16.02 million as of new year

PS3 | 8.7 million -----> 8.86 million as of new year

DAMNN I really underestimated the freaking Wii - Sheaaat! 

 

Lifetime Sales

Wii | 60-80 million

X360 | 50-60 million

PS3 | 100+ million (I believe the PS3 will still be around when other NEW consoles arrive...there won't be a PS4 for quite some time.)

I believe the PS3 will outsell the 360 in yearly sales, but won't overtake total sales until at least late 2009, most likely 2010.

due to GT5 n MGS4 (ESPECIALLY GT5)

however come 09 FFXIII will RESULT in 360 being conquered
