Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 Has The Exclusives But Where Are The System Sellers?

i think its a load of BS. people dont buy a system for just 1 game (no matter how much they like to deny it).

Xbox360 had Halo3

PS3 had FFXIII (this was before it was announced multiplat)

I chose 360...

I then saw little big planet and it interested me, then Killzone 2 came out and I got it.

You didnt buy a console for 1 game, I did more or less twice. I had no true idea about the 360/PS3 before I got my console.

At this point if there is not a game already being made or coming out and announced that you want from Sony than I think that person is not much of a gamer.

So there is probably nothing left except possibly some move games that are unique, but I doubt there is anything. The bottom line is a pricecut is probably the only thing that will increase sales significantly.

.... you cant have been serious when you wrote this?

I can't think of a single PS3 exclusive that appeals to massively-wide audiences like Halo/CoD do.

People love casual shooters.

Perphaps the OP is unaware of the Japanese and European markets where the PS3 has already sold more units then the 360 console (in both markets). in Japan FF13 was the biggest system seller and it seems that several games have been important for the console in the region. its been the best selling home console in Japan for the last few weeks and for most weeks of last year.

in Europe, the PS3 has also been the best selling home console for the last few weeks and for a lot of last year. thanks in part to Uncharted 2, but most importantly Gran Turismo 5, which has sold more copies than Halo 3 in Europe, despite only being on retail for 2 months.

there are several key games including MGS4 that were important. but in different regions, there have been several key titles. the only place where the PS3 is not doing comparatively well is the US.

You just said that the 80% of gamers who are uninterested are not gamers?

Not purchasing a console as oppose to not being interested in its library is 2 different thing. As a non fanboy gamer, its pretty much a non sense if you arent interested by the library of each consoles. They all have great titles in all genres. Though, this doesnt mean you have enough time or money to justify purchasing them all, especially if theres only 3-4 games your very interested in.

Early in a console's life, a title that exists only on one console, and represents a genre not done before (and exclusive to a console), can generate sales.  As a console matures, it is the library plus what a person's friend is playing that matters.  For example, I know now, someone considering getting a PS3 to play with LittleBigPlanet 2, because no other console does with LBP2 does, as far as being able to create content.

The only games I can see having a noticeable impact on the PS3 sales is Agent (that is if it stays exclusive).

PS3 had other system sellers like God of War 3 and Uncharted 2. And I think GT5 helped the PS3 for the holidays. ( In terms of YoY. The PS3 wasn't down massively ) The only time I think well see the PS3 trend above YoY massively is by a price cut.

PS :

A little sidenote. It does seem the PS3 has atleast one exclusive release for every month of the year.

Jan - LBP2
Feb - KZ3
March - MLB / Heroes
April - Motorstorm
May - Socom 4
June - Infamous 2
July - ?
August - ?
Sept - Resistance 3
Oct - ?
Nov - UC3
Dec - ?

October will likely have Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One.

Sorcery might either make a great game for August (when game purchasing starts picking up) or December (after the big titles have been released and the younger players are looking to spend their gift cards anf such)

With Sony making money now, they can put more into marketing for the exclusive games this year. UC3 will sell over 6 million units.

To clarify, I mean people that do not already own a console from this generation. Or at least the ones that are from prosperous countries thatdo not already own a system.

And yes Squalim you especialy are not a gamer if you do not want a PS3. :P
