Forums - Sales Discussion - Will the DS or Wii (or any system) ever sell 2 million or more in one week?

Like the title says. The DS has a chance Holiday 2008 and the Wii Holiday 2009 at the earlyiest. I'm not sure if any system has ever sold more than 2 million in one week and if any system could do it, it'd be DS or Wii. Thoughts?

EDIT: Yeah I mean world wide.

The question should be, will there ever be more than two million units in stock availible in stores in one week

 

They probably could if supply was availible 



 

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I think DS and Wii could easily do it. But, there just isn't enough stock in the retail channel.

I don't see it possible, unless you're talking worldwide sales, which would be hard to calculate since USA is done monthly.

I see Wii easily beating 1 million on holiday weeks, but I think only the DS could ever manage 2 million.

My Prediction: Wii will be achieve 48% market share by the end of 2008, and will achieve 50% by the end of june of 09. Prediction Failed.

Well, nintendo will be ramping up production sooner or later and the wii will soon release in China and Korea. If they stockpile enough DS's for christmas 08 it's possible.

Well, Not for the Wii. I don't think the Wii has sold more than 1 million in a week. Ever. Maybe once. MAYBE twice. But definitely not a lot. We have a big shot this week actually. We will know next week if the massive Dec 16th sale pushed Wii over 1 million WW. As for DS, it is possible.

 Wii hasn't had the supply to sell over a million very often

The DS definetly could, maybe next week? It depends on NA/EU, as JP sales have only been between 100-200k (except this week) but it definetly could happen. Not for the Wii though. More than double the price of the DS means it's not as affordable (but affordable nonetheless), and the size is bigger than the DS box so stores may not be able to stock as much.

PS2's highest one-week total was 1,775,427 according to here(week ending 12/23/02) with 1,471,073 units sold the week prior. The DS will likely end with around 1,640,000 for the week ending 12/15/07. If both supply and demand exists to see the same gain(either absolute or relative) the DS would still be short of 2 million for the week ending 12/22/07.
